Singles buyers can help increase the pain of participating in breaks by lowering the hit values, even for supers.

Unless of course, fanatics and retailers will continue to offer outlandish bounties for hits in every product just to spur sales.

re: Cup Hockey - is this on Fanatics Live or is just part of the discussion on breaking in a general sense? i.e. has Fanatics obtained Hockey licensing now? Hockey release schedules got so out of wack for so long I lost the plot on Hockey cards.

NHL is still done by Upper Deck and yes they are really far behind.

Gambling is being pushed hard all over society. Legal sports betting/DFS, stocks , cryptocurrency etc. As long as it's adults then they can make up their own mind as to how they spend their own money.

Yes, because all adults are capable of spending money responsibly. We've heard that one before.

"Stop telling people how to spend their money" - we've heard that one before too.

Fanatics partnered with comedy and sports group, Dude Perfect, to host box breaks on Fanatics Live: https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.co...ct-series.aspx

These guys are popular with kids. You see where this is headed, right? lol

I still contend that there isn't enough positive reinforcement in box breaks. If gamblers don't ever win, they will naturally lose interest. There are other forms of gambling that are more rewarding.

Fanatics will continue to utilize gimmicks and marketing to generate buzz and interest in card products. But it's going to take more to retain long-term, repeat gambling customers. And there isn't an endless supply of people with good disposable income that can be cycled into the hobby to replace exiting ones.

I think their marketing strategy has been crystal clear.

Will Fanatics develop a kid app for picking games as well?

It's actually a more pernicious form of gambling as they are rigging the game/odds. If we found out Fanatics affiliated players were throwing games...there would be outrage and disgust.

People would also stop betting on games featuring those athletes etc...we actually have the inverse scenario occurring because too many people try and explain away the nefarious BS. Fanatics is rigging the game, so degens run and splash cash on their sponsored breakers to increase their odds.

hermano's point is that attaching a negative stigma to breaking/using these platforms is a means to bring the prices and hobby back to reality. It's in a fairly toxic place at the moment.

Just an example, thankfully. The Cup is priced at $1,200 meaning people are paying $200/card (for 21-22...yes, they are that far behind)...the chances of recouping that are minimal. Also, Upper Deck (who I usually defend) have taken extreme liberties with their QC...they printed player-worn on some very sought after RPAs, only to now insist they are game-worn and shouldn't be questioned.

Also keep sliding in sticker autos of highly anticipated players (Kaprizov & Zegras) without informing collectors prior to release. Only once people started opening the product did they discover sticker autos...imagine pre-ordering a case or paying for a break spot, to find that coveted RPA isn't what you thought it would be.

Upper Deck insists they've locked up the NHL license for a "long time"...but Fanatics is set to become official on-ice supplier of NHL jerseys (after taking over fan gear a few seasons ago), so we will see if they can hold them off.

I cant wait until 8-year olds ask their Mom and Dad if they can be Cash App'd $25 to pick "swords and shields" or "cool jerseys" for this weeks fantasy team.

But limiting a house edge to create the occasional big winner and occasional mild winner is a fun way to make a little, generate table traffic while moving otherwise unmovable stuff
Did you ever set up in Nashville with this game?

No but my buddy is trying to convince me to go to the March(?) show as that's suppose to be a really good one, so I may fly out to that one calendar permitting.

I’ve heard many show promoters have outlawed these so called games of chance.

Dice games, card roulette wheels and grab bags were really popular in the 80’s.

Others have already said it, the group break game isn't going anywhere. I spent $100 to be in six, player case breaks of Upper Deck Artifacts Hockey. A case is $3,000. I watched 120 boxes be opened and I got over 10 cards for the PC. Not one case would have recouped $2,000. $18,000 worth of product being opened and it cost me $100 to be involved. That's the way to go, every time.

Same here. I'm a team collector so buying into pyt breaks is a better return then buying personal boxes. I'm not chasing the big rookies (unless they are Red Sox). I can spend hundreds on a hobby box and get no good Sox cards for the PC or I can spend $100 or less on a break and get several. I bought into two Platinum Anniversary breaks this year and got a Rice /25 and Ortiz /10. I'm happier with that then buying a personal box and having the hits be some utility player for the Pirates or similar

m pretty sure the NFL, NBA and stock market are rigged. Look at Nancy Pelosi's annual returns in the stock market vs S&P 500 and the average retail investor. All of these things are designed to take people's money.

Why not just buy singles as opposed to breaking?

This is a great point too, the big push for partnering with DFS and sports betting sites with the NFL just seems incredibly problematic and once the money gets involved like that you have to wonder how the game will change too..

There is still a social stigma against gambling.
