Default What's this worth!? Rafael Nadal

Hey everyone!

I've been on a Rafael Nadal collecting kick for the past year. Surprisingly it's been actually much harder to find his key cards than I thought it would be.

One that I have the opportunity to buy, but am unsure of is this 2005 Ace Authentic Signature Series autograph /100 in PSA 10. This card is arguably his most sought after RC autograph and I believe the first that was produced (after the Champions dual patch auto and Signature Moments.)

This PSA 10 copy is a pop-1 and has been for the last 6 years. These cards are super hard to grade, so I don't expect many more PSA 10s to pop-up.

My question is, what do you feel a fair value for this card should be today? The seller and I are at am impasse and would love some feedback.

A BGS 9 sold for $2,750 in August of last year. For a PSA 10, I would say $3,000-3,500?

Not a fan of graded cards, but that range seems reasonable to me, especially given that Nadal has on card autos on the market now.

A POP 1 Nadal.... from 2005.

The price could be anything. A bidding war.. I wouldn't be surprised if it hit $5K-8K or more. It just takes 2 people who really want it. It's not like you can pass on this and wait for the next one.

That estimate seems quite low. One of his "less desirable" Signature moments autographs cards from 2005 / 50 in PSA 10 sold for $12,000. I was thinking this could be in the realm of $15,000-$18,000.

My thinking here:

Roger Federer 2003 int'l pro series autograph patch /25 BGS 9.5/10 - $58,200
Novak Djokovic 2006 Ace Authentic autograph PSA 10 (pop 10)- $23,000

Rafa is arguably the second most popular of the "Big 3." Roger's is a dual patch auto / 25, but this Rafa is his first RC autograph and the ONLY PSA 10 copy. Quite honestly, I feel this card could go for something north of $20,000 given all of this! But's it's hard to say as there just isn't a lot of sales data and the multiplier on PSA 10 cards can be rather larger.

It's worth whatever someone will pay but honestly I think you're estimate is pretty high.

It's a sticker auto /100. Some people will pay a premium for the PSA 10 but it's not worth as much to others. I sold a pop 1 PSA 10 Joker auto not too long ago that went significantly higher than a normal auto.

I think the 6-8k estimates for your card are probably accurate.

I would agree! These cards are very hard to grade.

I still think your estimate doesn't make any sense. You're essentially putting the second most popular tennis player in history's only PSA 10 (1st ever RC autograph card) at essentially a Novak 2006 Ace sticker rc auto PSA 9 valuation... The range HAS GOT TO BE somewhere in the $15,000+ range. Especially since we're seeing other Nadal autographs from later years selling for $7,000+

Gawwhh this is driving me mad trying to valuate this HAHA.

This thread is somewhat confusing. So you're the buyer trying to buy the card from a seller, and at the same time maintaining why it should be worth as much as possible, insisting it must be a 15k+ card even though some posters think otherwise. The other aspect is the asking how much a card is worth, then when getting input, insisting instead the value is such and such.

Now Im not going to say one side has to be right or wrong in their valuations, but Im sure you can understand why some might question the situation (if you are really the prospective buyer, whether the card is being pumped, etc).

Yeah, this doesn't make a ton of sense. I have a feeling "the seller" is actually OP.

The usual BO “What’s this worth” thread. OP asks for a value, gets comments from people, doesn’t like the estimates and defends their valuation. A tale as old as time.

Agreed. There's a 2005 PSA 10 /50 listed on ebay for $11999 that isn't selling but somehow his /100 is worth over 20k because... reasons.

Not sure what's funnier: People asking for a valuation when they already have one in their head or people falling for it everytime. Even the degens on Reddit know not to engage "Whats this worth" posts lol

He's just defending the high asking price because It will help him justify spending this much if he does end up doing a deal for it. Ya know? And maybe he really does think it's worth that much and wants to make sure the market doesn't tank on prices.....
