2017 Topps David Ortiz SSP Set: Completed

Recently acquired the 10th and final David Ortiz Image Variation SSP from the 2017 Topps flagship set. This was years in the making, and I hardly ever see the Gatorade bath variation show up for sale. Probably paid more than I should have, but I'm glad to officially have the full set. Not sure how many of each of these cards are out there, or how many folks have completed the set. Based on how hard many of them are to find, I'm guessing there are a high percentage of them locked away in PCs (which is where mine will stay as well)

The three-bat is probably my favorite "We Play For Championships"

Congrats, that is fantastic, hopefully it wasn't a wallet buster.

I really would love to get some of these, notably that lego Papi. The Houston hat is also tremendous.

Love this set. I had no idea Topps made so many Ortiz SPs and SSPs. Perhaps the sign on the dugout should now read "We used to Play for Championships but we Won 4 so we're good"

Thank you! Probably 6 or 7 of them I was able to get for reasonably cheap, under $100. Maybe 2 or 3 for $50 or less. The one with Pujols and the Lego were more expensive, and the Gatorade bath was approaching wallet busting territory haha

The Lego, Cowboy hat, and Gatorade are my 3 favorites

I imagine they'll still keep the current sign. Getting a new sign would be too expensive for the 2024 Red Sox.

These are great, and part of what I think we lost when they went to the Golden Mirror one per player SP setup. I miss the old SSPs and SSSPs, or cards where they'd drop retired players in as SPs.

It probably didn't help that SSPs from the 2017 and 2018 era are all basically at historic highs.

June 2018, I saw Lego Ortiz in person at Fenway. Anyone know if it's still there?

I have mixed feelings on the Golden Mirrors. While I do miss the SSPs and retired players, I also think it's kinda cool that folks who collect less sought after players have variations to hunt down.

The difference in price for the cards I was able to find in 2019ish to the cards I added this year and last year was crazy.

Definitely one of my favorites. I know there are some collectors who go specifically after Gatorade bath cards, so hunting this one down was even more of a challenge

Thank you! I'm no stranger to rainbows, or at least attempting them. Currently one card shy of an Ortiz rainbow, in fact. But I agree, this set is much more unique and makes for a more interesting display as well!

Very cool to see another set completed! I haven't seen very many collections with all 10. Recency bias aside, I think it is my favorite part of my collection now.
