Mahomes was light years better IMO and it was clearly shown on how Mahomes can pick apart a blitz while Purdy didn't know what to do most of the time.

Purdy didn't turn the ball over, but he wasn't even Nick Foles out there.

Part of it was the horrendous playcalling, but a lot of passes were off and to me he struggled mightily with the blitz.

Yeah, a couple colossal goofs on special teams might have cost them that game.

'Wasn't even Nick Foles'

You mean the guy who outplayed Brady's best Super Bowl?

The guy’s only purpose on this board was to troll player threads. From one to the next when he didn’t get the attention he needed. He was doing it for years before you joined. Had to have been suspended half a dozen times before he finally got the ban hammer.

I had a painful 2011 NFCCG memory there.

Well, to be fair, the right side of the 49ers offensive line was atrocious.

How many plays did Chris Jones blow up because McKivitz couldn't block him?

On most pass plays, the Chiefs were in Purdy's face and he was forced to get rid of the ball before he wanted to.

Easy to forget the Chiefs were the #1 overall defense this year.....

No excuses - but this is the correct take.

What are you gonna do?

Right on. I almost got clipped arguing with him. However, he had 6k posts before venturing to Purdy. Seemed reactionary and harsh.

The run only worked on the first drive then didn’t.

Only worked in OT because the Chiefs were tired.

The line was not holding up.

They ran the ball 28 times....and only averaged 3.5 yards per carry.....the only pass play that I would have liked to see changed to a run was the 1st down right after the INT at the beginning of the 2nd half.

Pressure got to Purdy even if they never sacked him. Would love to see what his numbers were against the blitz.

The coin flip rule change changes how we view this guy. If it's 2021 he's a sb winner. Since it's 2024 he's a sb loser.

Niners were smelling blood in OT but couldn't bust out the dagger with a cut throat play call near the goal line. That's on the coaches not Purdy.

A truly great QB wouldn't have settled for a FG.

That's on Shanahan, if he defers and everything else plays out the same on the Chiefs drive, they probably don't go for it on 4th down from their own 34.

Even though it was a half-yard, they have sucked on 3rd/4th and short this year, and they would have handed the game to the 9ers if they don't make it.

One of the biggest mishaps in the game was the chiefs rusher getting to Purdy unblocked on the 3rd and 4 in OT. The lineman totally muffed his blocking assignment. Without that and Purdy might have found BA in the middle of the end zone.

That was the game right there.

McKivitz at RT was getting abused by Jones all day, probably should have given him some help.

definitely help but he didn't even block jones. That's just nuts. Their best defensive player went in untouched. I bet he couldn't believe it himself.

at the end of the day you saw the difference in having the QB1 of the last 5 years and having a so-so game manager who was asked not to make too many mistakes behind statistically probably a top 5 offensive line and throw the ball to one of his four pro bowl pass catchers every now and then. in other words, mahomes makes his surrounding cast look a lot better than they are, and purdy's surrounding cast makes him look a lot better than he really is

I know I said I wouldn't comment in this thread again, but I just want to say I'm so proud of Purdy and the performance he had in this game. What a wonderful young man. He went toe-to-toe with the best QB in the league. I hope to one day see him raise a Lombardi Trophy. But I won't be watching because I'm done with the NFL. Good luck, young man -- don't pay attention to Hermano and the other haters lol.

Two best teams in their respective conferences and it's a small margin for error. If they play a clean game, they win and he's a sb champ. They made some game changing mistakes that were outside of his control.
