What's happening to Cardboard Connection is happening or going to happen to many other prominent online media sites. Ad rates have tanked and investor money has dried up.

This is really sad. CC used to be my gold standard

if there is someone who needs a job... they do have a link on the homepage.. good luck if you do

I would pay 10 bucks a year to be a member if they went that route

If money is the issue for all of this ?

I use the site all the time

It was never really a "company"....it was a website built by one person as a labor of love, who then sold the website to a third party and had an (apparent) falling out with the new owner(s) and left.

I don't think there were ever more than a few employees...i.e. Trey and a couple of assistants.

Yeah, it was my way of finding new sets to collect.

I mean I only use it for the checklists, but I'm surprised they have/had more than one employee. I mean maybe a few freelance writers could contribute, but the day to day operations of that site do not seem very complex...although more than the new guy can seem to handle.

I found this today, havent checked any other products, but 2024 Topps Series 1 appears to be pretty comprehensive.

They actually run some of the better break videos on you tube(from a guy that doesn’t buy into breaks and just wants to see what new products have in them).

People will go to the ends of the internet looking for checklists instead of going to Beckett.

CC was better for certain items -
For example Upper Deck sets - CC listed what tier each card was in so you knew how hard it really was to hit a card of a particular player - many other sites I had seen (this is going back a few years) didn’t do that.
Once I got used to using CCi- I didn’t switch out - now I guess time to find a new site.

I prefer Beckett as well. I like that they break the release out into teams since I only care about what new Yankee cards there are in each new set to collect.

CC was typically first to post about new products. Beckett seemed to get their info from CC.

Haven’t seen anyone mention this…Ryan Cracknell, the current editor of the Beckett site, used to so the same thing at Cardboard Connection before Beckett’s editor moved on. Say 6-7 years ago, I forget. I did like when Ryan ran CC he would often post a curated set of links to whatever sports card thing he may have recently discovered on the web. Once he moved over to Beckett I haven’t seen anyone do quite the same thing in that regard.

For me, all such sites and the different peeps were fine with me and I use them in a somewhat random fashion. They all seem like a labor of love of sports cards, to me.

I think people are pushing back on monopolies in all walks of life, and this is the moment for "Big Checklist" to take some of that medicine. CC monopolized the space, and it was only a matter of time before the Justice Department had the time to investigate and level the playing field in the Checklist business.

Well they updated with Prizm basketball. The write up is a horrible mish mash of blasters and hobby.

Just axe the whole site.

Beckett posting checklists and team sets basically put websites like Cardboard Connection and Group Break Checklist out of business.

My main collecting interest is nonsports and Cardboard Connection was always a great source for new set previews and checklists. A shame it’s going downhill.

I just tried them for Topps series I. Thought they used to have all that info up right away but not this time.
