They don't support those type of requests anymore, I believe.
You have to select the service option from the get go and that means a card grade or "authentic" grade from the initial order submission.

I guess you could submit for a card grade and then make that request, but again, I was under the impression they don't do that anymore. Do they?

What you are referring to is that except for crossovers, you can NOT request a minimum grade, where if the min grade is not met, the card is returned unslabbed. In this case, the card is still being slabbed, but you are giving a directive as to what the flip says. Basically you are trying to get them to do it at the initial slabbing, rather than having to send the card back for a re-holder, where they will remove the grade at your request.

you can't select min grade anymore on the online submission, but I have graded some cards recently and put a note on the card saver asking for authentic only (I didn't want a numerical grade) and they granted it authentic.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try that and give it a whirl.
*fingers crossed*

I got two higher end cards recently that if given numerical grades, would likely be 5's or below. I opted for just authentic as I know they aren't altered in any way, I simply didn't want a numerical grade due to condition. just because a card is graded authentic doesn't mean you need to stay away, just means either someone CHOSE to get it graded as such, or PSA deemed its condition warranted it.

For the 100th time guys you ALWAYS opt for the numerical grade if you can get it from PSA. AUTHENTIC slabbed cards can be or are altered. Look up PSA guidelines on the matter. Check your ego at the door if you ever want to sell and take the numerical grade you will get alot more when you go to sell over AUTHENTIC.

Not everyone grades for profit motive. And not all customers know the vagaries of PSA's policies. This is a choice that people are given. If not, PSA would not offer it.

I think it was mentioned, but to reiterate, Brady contenders rookies often came from the factory smaller than min size requirement. they will only authenticate those. but, auth. is far less desirable than numerical grade.

Agreed that's why I said if you ever intend to sell you always opt for the numerical grade. High dollar cards will net you alot more.

Just wanted to circle back on this.

I just had a PSA/DNA order that I tried this with. I added a post-it note asking to grade authentic only, and the order was finally entered into PSA's system yesterday and immediately placed ON HOLD. It said "problem order" and I had to call PSA this AM to have them confirm with me via email that I will omit this request.

So sadly, it didn't work at all for me, and calling PSA is such a joke. I dialed in at exactly 7:00 am PST, and the recording said there were 2 callers ahead of me, so I just waited since there were so few. Then a few minutes later, the recording comes back on saying there are now 9 callers ahead of me. LOL WTF? So I said forget it and requested the call back and then called me back at 11:30am to fix this.

So I wanted to just circle back on this so that people don't try it and immediately get an order placed ON HOLD and have to deal with PSA's "customer service".

Bummer. I wish it would have worked.

Did you put something in the notes as well, or just the post-it?

Just checked, actually I did put it in both. Here's my notes from the submission form:

I can absolutely confirm to anyone this does NOT work and will result in a HOLD on your order.

I think part of it has to do with who intakes your order. I was under the assumption that your submission was for 1 card, not multiple. Unfortunately you have a stray period, so it seems you are saying "I would like a numeric grade for each Auto only.", so that may have been confusing. The note should have been more simple like "if the auto grade on any card is NOT a PSA 10, please label that card(s) as Auto Authentic....

Trying this with multiple cards may not be possible since you can't enter notes per line and I think technically it is the grader who enters the grade and then the flip prints. Multiple cards would slow things down

Honestly, I don't think there's any way this works anymore. Maybe in the past, but not anymore.

I wouldn't recommend it, especially with PSA terrible customer service options of having to call precisely at 7am for a call-back to rectify it.

I will say if you are a good sleuth you can use the authentic grade to your advantage since it tends to spook some people. For example, I recently bought an authentic slabbed card from the early 2000s. Card was serial numbered to 25 but I looked up all the surrounding serial numbers and every single card, about 20 in total, was a low numbered autograph card with an authentic slab. Could all 20 of those be altered in some way? Sure. But the much more likely scenario is someone just sent in a bunch of low numbered auto cards and decided to get an AUTH grade either because the cards wouldn't get a 9 or 10 (most likely) or because they just wanted an authentic grade on those low numbered auto cards (least likely). That research made me more than comfortable to buy.

I have a PSA graded card (PSA 8) and it has a dark blue auto that I want graded.

The card is of high value (circa $20k) - do PSA charge the full fee in this case $1,000 grading fee?

BS made up by trimmers. I opened many cases of 2000 Contenders and had them in stacks. The stacks were all completely even. Including the Autographs.

I bought a Juan Marichal rookie in a PSA 7 and cracked it to have it signed. I sent it in to PSA for dual grading and it came back Authentic, with a 10 on the auto. I cracked it again and sent it back in, and it came back a 7. There was awhile there I was getting a fair number of dual grade cards coming back "Authentic" for some reason, no explanation of course.

Here's a tip I recently found out:
(This is likely not new to many of you, but it was new to me, so just passing this along in case this helps anyone else.)

If you ever have a card like this where there's a low grade for the card, and a nice AUTO 10 grade for the auto, and you would prefer the card was just AUTHENTIC instead:

You can resubmit this as a REHOLDER to PSA to get this card re-labeled AUTHENTIC card AUTO 10.
(This particular card was signed for me in person by Curt Flood as a kid, and I graded this a year or two ago, but I'd actually now prefer AUTHENTIC and AUTO 10 since I don't really care about the card grade.)

I was told by PSA you just have to state the following in the notes on your REHOLDER order:

"Remove Card Grade, (make card 'Authentic'), Auto Grade Only"

This info was based on a recent inquiry I made to PSA asking the above, and what's nice is that a reholder is cheaper/faster than a new PSA/DNA submission.
Will PSA ignore the notes and mess up the order? Probably.

But at least I have it documented that they said you can do this type of service as a reholder.
Just FYI for anyone who may want to do this.

Have you requested "if this doesn't qualify for a grade, then slab as authentic?" I have a card that is either poor or authentic (probably doesn't meet min. size) and I am not sure about their policy. I'm leaning towards sending it to SGC eventually, but curious about PSA's stance on this.

Yes I’ve requested that before with a note on the card saver and they did it.
