2024 Topps Series 1 Details

So wait topps forgot to stamp cards with some special logo to make the card 1/1's and put them into packs

I am a set builder who would historically buy one jumbo box, build the set, and be done. So far this year, I have opened a jumbo box, 5 hangers, 2 blasters, and 1 Fanatics box and am still 15 cards short of the complete set. I have about 8 copies of a specific run though. 😑

On top of that, my jumbo was missing the guaranteed autograph. The best card out of the thousand or so I have opened so far was an Orioles team card to 199. I get that this may be me being unlucky, but I think it’s fair to say the card coalition is messed up this year.

Kinda makes me worried I missed one because I wasn't looking for it. Were they in the middle with the rest of the hits?

The more I think about it, the more I believe my own made up conspiracy about the collation. I don't believe it was just some simple oversight by QC. Fanatics wants to grow the hobby 10x. You don't do that by letting people get a complete base set from one jumbo. So you deliberately mess up collation. Use the example Sets gave, instead of one box, they sold 8 additional units.

Id like to know this as well. Does anyone know if these cards are found amoungst the inserts or mixed in with the rest of the base cards?

At this point, you would have just stashed them with the rest of the base cards, correct? You're looking for the ones stamped 1/1 on the back

I guess I'm not sure why where they were packed matters so much? Unless you've already tossed the base cards in the trash.

It was said earlier in the thread that it was seeded backward in at least one case.

Correct. It matters to me because if they are in the middle with the inserts, i likely did not miss any. However, if they are mixed in with the rest of the base cards, i would need to double check.

You're getting 17% less product with a 20-25% price increase, and people are still falling all over themselves to buy it......no wonder Fanatics thinks collectors are idiots.....

The first number is true, but where do you get the second percentage? These sell for pretty much the same as last year. The jumbos are actually less on the market because they’re not juiced this time.

I could believe that each card has different print runs and honestly would make sense for them to do to get people to buy more. At worst mess up collation so that some cases have 10 of one card and 4 of another.

I don't even think they need different print runs. Somewhere out there is a case that has the exact opposite. It could be people that don't use the forums (which there are plenty) or it could be the case that sits in the warehouse for the next 15 years.

Anecdotally, two players I noticed missing a lot in jumbo (Acuna & CES) both had 10 copies each in a hobby case I opened.

Picked up a few Hobby packs at my LCS yesterday as we were discussing the occasional foil stamped Topps appearing in the opposite corner - I noticed the Soto & Ohtani SPs feature that.

So I ripped a pack right there and found no insert nor parallel. Was told that is called a “base pack” - have never experienced that before. How common are those in Hobby boxes this year? Just baseball card trivia.

This. I’ve now bought random boxes from several different cases and keep hitting the same doubles of guys over and over again. Davis is one of them. I swear they double printed certain cards, and coupled with the bigger set and fewer cards per box, it’s making collation seem very far off.

Agree. Davis I have a ton of along with Moreno FS, Tatis, and Arozarena. CES and Acuna hardly anything. I agree with the theory they are doing it intentionally to help sales.

Picked up two Series 1 blasters from Wally World this morning and pulled an Independence Day rookie from each box. Ceddanne Rafaela and Carmen Mlodzinski aren't this biggest names, but boy these are beautiful parallels in hand. Topps knocked it out of the park with the overall design and especially with these parallels. Please tell me to quit while I'm ahead!

Yes, they appear to have done just that based on what's been seen so far in houdini's big breaks. Though to be fair he's only opening jumbo so it COULD be not true across all formats, or could even be other guys are double-packed in other formats such that it balances out. TBD. But for what it's worth, 295 is one of the ones he saw doubled, yeah.

Picked up 4 hangers. One had two of same card. One was backward so I thought maybe it was a parallel or rainbow foil. No, and when I saw the second, it was exactly the same. Nice job Topps.

Agreed.. collation was not good. I did get at least 5 copies of every base card from a Jumbo case but i got 10 or 11 of some base cards.
