"Fast turnaround times, exceptional customer service and highly-respected grading standards will continue to highlight SGC’s existing offering"- SGC President Peter.
No mention of cost effecitve, or no upcharges mentions. I think upcharges are in the future for SGC. Yes, I am aware there are upcharges over $1500 currently but I fear that number is going to come down and effect more collectors. |

A couple thoughts:
This either sinks SGC's hypothetical set registry or integrates it with PSA's. There are some sets and varieties that one grades and not the other. Are those going to be harmonized?

While this is true, I don't see Collectors Universe running them as separate entities in the future. From a business standpoint it wouldn't make any sense to have both brands unless they are able to separate the two into their own niche market. If however they do this, at what cost will it be to the consumer to cross the slabs over?

That's because you have no idea what you are talking about. Yes, I believe it when they say they will remain completely independent companies. Because that's how it nearly always works when an investment firm purchases an established company, even when they have competing companies in the same space in their portfolio. To those who understand business, it actually makes little sense to purchase SGC, including its established brand and customer base, and destroy it. It makes far more sense to build it along side PSA (think Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop existing side by side). So yes, I live in the real world. A world where I've seen this before in many sectors. You live in a fantasy world of conspiracy theories on message boards.

A someone who likes SGC best, and isn't a fan of PSA, this is not great news. However, just because the parent company buys them, doesn't mean they won't continue to operate a separate brand. Maybe set registry data is combined so that users grading with SGC can add to a unified set registry, as well as choosing to send to the Goldin vault/marketplace after SGC grading to build their weak Goldin marketplace, etc. We'll have to wait and see.

If TAG plays their cards right they could jump in 2024. Non objective grading done by a high resolution scanner and computer. licensing the hardware and software to brick and mortar stores so that an individual can pull a card, have it graded, and slabbed all within a few minutes all within their view!
I haven't graded with them yet because of the insane hoops it seems you have to jump through, but if they could fix their system I could see them making a push in 2024 and 2025. |

![]() You can already add SGC (or any brand) of cards to the PSA registry. It's just you have to do it manually now.

TAG is just waiting for one of the big companies to swallow up them too...if Collectors U deems TAG to be a threat. TAG doesn't strike me as a company in it for the long haul and have the capital resources to grow. There's not enough interest in them for investors to fork over large investment dollars into their company.
Short term, some of SGC vintage graders will be given PSA vintage orders since PSA is so far behind on turnaround times for those orders. Long term, if SGC is allowed to continue to exist, what the rms13 post says. SGC fees will climb high enough where most folks will be deterred and turn to PSA for the ROI...but not so high where SGC diehards will give up their SGC slabs. Eventually though, the SGC brand will fade away. |

I just don't get this conclusion.
Do you feel that the brand Marvel or Pixar will fade away now that Disney owns them? It's been about 20 years and Pixar is still Pixar, even with another Disney Animation Studios going as well. It's the false illusion of choice, and the ability to set pricing without as much competition.

Not a lot of details, but here's another interesting story/rumor.
https://x.com/HobbyNewsDaily/status/...059341613?s=20 @JunkWaxHero79 I’m hearing rumblings that Goldin Auctions is on the verge of being acquired by another company. Collectors selling off Goldin while acquiring SGC? @HobbyNewsDaily I heard this from a source as well.

It seems people just aren't thinking this through. Investment firms do not purchase companies to let them fade away. They have every incentive to grow it as big as they can. Having 2 massive companies in your portfolio is better than having one. SGC's 10% market share was not a threat to PSA. So the theory of buying competition to eliminate them is not the play here. Both can co-exist and Collectors Universe knows that. That's why they bought them. To make money off both companies. Because, you know, that's what investors do.

The TAG talk is hilarious. They aren't a threat nor ever will be a threat to PSA or even SGC. Collectors Universe acquiring them would be pointless because there is no value they provide that PSA and SGC already doesn't.

When talking about SGC cards being added to the registry, I assume we’re talking about being able to compete in the PSA registry with SGC cards. That will never happen.

It doesn't have to happen because the SGC registry can provide that service. PSA keeps the exclusive competition-based registry. And SGC has a "universal" registry. And Collectors owns them both. They win all around (and SGC has already created their registry and were rumored to be rolling it out soon).

![]() I do actually think they could have a collective set registry down the road. Probably starts with an SGC only set registry, and then one where both brands of cards are sets under the same set registry umbrella, so I disagree with you on that in saying it will never happen. If you're the parent company, you want both companies to do well and dwarf the competition with the false illusion of choice, and fixed pricing. I would also love it if SGC could somehow bring back auto grading/authentication (via a partnership with PSA/DNA) and offer on-card in-person auto services back as well. But again, time will tell.

My new guess it that PSA just needed to expand to Florida too. Also probably has a lot to do with eBay authentication.
