Default Star Wars: The Acolyte

I wanted to make a thread for the upcoming Disney+ show, The Acolyte. I am very excited for this show because it is the first live action Star Wars show that takes place outside of the Skywalker era. It is set during the High Republic, probably 150 or so years prior to The Phantom Menace.

As a reader of the Star Wars High Republic books, I’m very excited to see this on the screen and see how it looks. Anyway, they announced the premier date as June 4th and released this poster. A trailer should come out tomorrow. Is anyone else excited for this??

Star Wars and Marvel is just annoying at this point. Just too much of both. Hopefully the trailer is decent.

Is that blood in the poster?

I'm intrigued!

I'd be more intrigued if it were 150 years after The Phantom Menace. Star Wars and Star Trek are too afraid to push forward

I'm reasonably interested, but would have preferred the Old Republic. Very happy they are finally leaving the Skywalker era alone.

Before is boring. None of it matters because I know what happens in Episodes 1-9. Want to go 1,000 years before Phantom Menace, sure. 150 isn't enough.

Better yet, go 150 years after Phantom Menace. Welllll after Episode 9.

Eh, that was only....

1 > 2: 10 years
2 > 3: 3 years
3 > 4: 19 years
4 > 6: 4ish years
6 > 7: 30 years
7 > 9: 1ish year

67 years between Episode 1 TPM and Episode 9 TRoS. Give it another 80 years after 9 then start telling stories.

They should have leaned into the EU or just straight up blown past it by a century+. Disneys pessimistic view of everything our OT heroes fought for was a grave mistake.

I still want them to use those books as new source material for a TV show or series of movies.

How many different versions of the same superheroes are out there? They can afford to create a second universe for what is a much better story than episodes 7-9.

I'd be perfectly content if they had the EU and DisneyCanon running side-by-side. Produce stuff for both. Just hand wave the commonality of the movies for both canons as a "merging then diverging of the Force". Somethingsomethingsomething technobabble world-between-worlds Mortis artifact yadda yadda. Then give me Jaina Solo kicking all the butt as the Sword of the Jedi.

It looks cool visually, and I'll give it a shot, but not too sure what to expect yet

Trailer looked ok. Couple things give me pause about it so we’ll see.

I thought we saw this already. It was called The Phantom Menace.

Oh, but this has a girl. Totally different.

Another super hero style movie with all female leads....Disney is sure ruining these franchises with movies people won’t watch. Strong pass for me.

I loved STAR WARS for years. I mean, loved. I've probably seen the originals 200-300 times each in my life.

Now I can't force myself to watch any of it. I was gravely disappointed by the final two movies in this final trilogy and after Mandalorian season 2 I lost interest in everything. never thought that would happen. I'm not of the Asohka generation - did not watch.

I can't see myself watching any of it anymore. It doesn't feel like the creators care if I do, either. Fair enough.

While I agree wholeheartedly with you on the trash that was the latest trilogy and Book of Boba Fett, you really are missing out on some of the newer series. Ashoka was great and I can't wait for what happens next with it. Bad Batch is great even though I find Omega annoying. Andor was the best by far of the Star Wars shows IMO.

My guess is this sets up the last of the Sith to be destroyed before returning 150 years later with Darth Maul and Darth Sidious.

To be fair, I did like Rogue One quite a bit.

I'm old enough that I'm not a Star Wars Rebels guy so I have no emotional attachment to the Asohka character. I watched a little with my son... it just wasn't for me. If I was in my mid-30s, I imagine I'd have more interest in Asohka.
