Didn't you at one point have one of the best Ohtani collections in the world? Why did you sell?

Ohtani is making $2 million per year for the next 10 years.

His contract was written to avoid California state taxes.

Interesting political effects here, is the state govt pissed off at him enough to go after him? Or do they let it slide to let their political friends (the Dodgers) make a pile of money?

This is 100% accurate

The amount of CPE’s I’ve listened to about this is fascinating

They are going to go after him

Wrong guy.

If Vladimir Guerrero Jr ever makes his translator a scapegoat for his illegal gambling in California, my collection will be worthless.

I wish. Props to that guy for catching himself a big fish like “Ohtani’s translator”. A round of boos to that fella for getting caught.

Meant as a joke.

Shinji Tanaka is a character in the Yakuza video game franchise.

I made the fatal mistake of assuming some in the baseball forums would get it, but the average age of the average baseball fan is 65

Those home games are known be shady and it wouldn't surprise me if the bookie "invited" the terp to them. There were allegations of marked cards recently where a player lost $1 million in one night.
IFFFFFFFFF this story were to travel into this direction - that the debts largely came from Poker - a whole lot of people would breathe easier on it.

Yes and no, there's still the issue of having a guy connected to a star player with a huge gambling debt with an illegal book maker. That's a problem for any sport.

Nah, nothing new there. Go read about Riviera Country Club and what they do to avoid taxes. No one cares.

Damn, I just read up on it. Apparently it would be only $30 million. He will still brings in a lot more than that to the state with him on the Dodgers and more after he retires. There is just so much long term money involved, its not worth trying to go after him for anything other than being a victim.

I see Ohtani took Chris Carter's advice.

Of course the lawyers aren’t going to say my client had knowledge of illegal gambling activities. That’s the point of having a defense. His name is still listed on the wire transfers according to ESPN. That is a crime itself. I promise you if this happened to a lower tier player, they’d be under investigation right now. They absolutely have to investigate it, and honestly prosecutors are always trying to make a name for themselves, I wouldn’t be surprised if this became a huge deal. I can also totally see them sweeping this under the rug. Back to the wire transfer, even if he wasn’t doing the betting himself, his funds were sent to an illegal bookmaking operation. I don’t see how he doesn’t get suspended, unless he is holier than thou.

Give Ohtani Dodger stock and his classification changes from
a player to a player with ownership. A owners / executives are held to different standards of accountability.
