I love both the 86F and StarXRC
With that being said I think the hobby has really embraced the Star XRC since PSA began grading them and collectors becoming more educated on the historical significance of them Alot of Beckett myth of what defines a rookie card has faded with newer collectors who are not tied to the Fleer RC bias and lack of Star being graded in the past really suppressed the XRC However I truly believe the XRC is THE MJ card to own and hold for the long haul PSA now grading them coupled with their rarity is a no brainer really PS: Please stop saying if there is ever a a PSA 10 Star 101....it simply will never happen... With that being said I treat PSA 9 XRC as PSA 10 in the sense that is the highest graded copy with PSA 8.5s being at least an attainable given the astronomic price of a PSA 9 PSA 9 XRC is similar value to 2 PSA 10 86 Fleer.... Wind the clock ahead a decade and I can see more of a 5-7x as 86 Fleers continue to soften and PSA 9 XRCs will rarely show up for sale.... |

Lebron got bronze on an Olympic team of nba players because…. Argentina or Greece in Fiba. Jordan won gold with college kids and Bob Knight. And an ncaa title that he hit the game winner. Thankfully the Bulls traded their coke heads for Horace and Scottie and they won nba titles then too. |

I agree with Starman 1000%. I don't think there will ever be a PSA 10 101. Just not going to happen. Which will add even more value and allure to the 101.

Lebron took a bunch of scrubs to the finals at 22. Jordan never won a playoff series until Scottie helped him out.

Anytime you see Jordan, you can be sure that LeBrand and his basic fans are sure to follow because that's what followers do.

It's weird how some MJ diehards can't see the name LeBron without seething with anger. Appreciate greatness!

But with only 3 PSA 9s to date the odds are really against it In fact I'd wager in another 5-7 years there will still be less than a PSA 9 pop under 10. Those 9.5s appear more like PSA 8 or 8.5 at best so I don't see many crossovers I have a very good shot of a PSA 9 cross on mine but I ain't crossing it yet as the grading fee be be exorbitant and I'd rather just buy other MJ cards if I see a good deal which are finally out there now as opposed to the newbie 2021 bubble Ive never seen a XRC which could be PSA 10 and I've seen hundreds of 101s over the past 15 years We shall see but I just don't see it Just my take as I like yourself were Star fans way before the PSA validation of them being great

my brief little 101 story:
during one of the epic FOMO run-ups of the Jordan era, ca. 1992-93, I bought a 101 through a Tuff Stuff retailer without ever having seen a 101. Beckett hadn't printed a picture by then (it did a year or so later after a no-brainer customer request), and this was before the age of internet-quality information. So the card arrives, and there's basically two things about it: (1) the "thrill" of having MJ's first licensed card w/Bulls uni, and (2) the underwhelming appearance of the card itself. Over time the thrill of (1) wore off These two things were in basic tension ever since |

I understand your reasoning. I’ve just seen inconsistent grading standards change too much and be unevenly applied over the years to trust that. Not to mention the trimming. |

Love the Star set. I recently graded the 83-84 Lakers team set.

those are generally nice Star cards of the '84 Lakers, funny cropping decisions notwithstanding (McAdoo is way over there so that Kareem can be in the picture lol), they have their charm and unlike with the MJ 101 you can actually make out players' faces/features

now it's got me thinking of going after some nice mid-'80s Star material of Lakers and Celtics especially; I have had my eye on a '85-86 Magic, the one with him in purple away jersey and white border, just haven't really honed in on those sets yet (why not? 101 disappointment aside. and I do got that '86 Court Kings Magic

Yeah I love the mid-‘80s Lakers releases from Star. The 86 championship set has the Dr. Buss/Kareem trophy card. It’s the only card printed during the Showtime era with Dr. Buss. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by lebronicle; 04-27-2024 at 02:08 PM. Reason: spacing |

the two Star cards I have in my collection currently

![]() I’ve been trying to get every Celtics Star card in BGS 9.5. Some of these are pop 1. Not sure what to do now since apart from Star my entire graded collection is PSA and mostly on the registry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Does anyone know if PSA has started grading sealed team packs?
