The comp for Trout at this point is Ralph Kiner. 1451 hits. 369 HR. .946 OPS.

Kiner did it in 10 years as opposed to 14 but their total games are similar 1472 vs 1518. Kiner never won an MVP but still made the HOF. Trout is considered by many to be the best player in baseball over a decade and Kiner wasn't. I'm sure HOF voters will take injuries into consideration when he misses key milestones for HOF

Seems like every year…not much goes on in the Trout thread until boom he is hurt and the we have the 20 pages of debate about how good he was vs his lack of moments vs what he meant for cards vs the missed milestones etc this should go on for a few weeks

Pretty much sums up 900+ pages in one post.

Trout hate is real. Not his fault he became the hobby darling by being good at the game. I don't get it for the most part. He's a likeable guy.

Every player dedicated megathread will mention a player’s injury as it occurs. The reason you see it more often in Trout’s megathread is because he gets injured more often than most of the other players who have dedicated mega threads.

How many kids will never get to go college because of his current (and still to come) value drops...

Trout has 8 years left on his contract and notably isn't even out for 2024 yet. I'd say he's still favored to get 500 HR.

I dunno... We all know the talent is there but his health is already bad and it's only going to get worst as he ages. After this year it's hard not to lean the other way. Maybe if they make him DH only to conserve his body.

Baseball Prospectus as of 3 days ago has stated that the return time of a torn meniscus is 2-3 months but the Angels have stated 6 weeks. He is still awaiting surgery and at this pace one wonders if it will be like the lower body injury that kept him for the rest of the season.

I wonder if the 6 weeks is trying to keep the Angels fanbase engaged? They lost Ohtani in the off season and now no Trout. I would assume two months minimum. Best case scenario is get him back after the all star break.

Nice little story to help contextualize what we ALL are, as baseball fans, missing. Pretty sad tbh

It's not expected to be season ending is the only timetable I've seen published. My guess is 8 weeks minimum but he hasn't even gone under the knife yet.

If he were to come into the season lean at roughly 200 lbs instead of constantly being muscle bound, members might not be creating these threads. H. Aaron only weighed 180 lbs and had health well into performing in his late 30’s.

Is this because some members compare him to Willie Mays & Mickey Mantle while others dispute his high regards because his production due to Trout’s constant lack of availability lessen’s his value ?

Are you saying he won’t spend any time in the closest minor league system to where they hope to then have him playing with the team ?

you're busy comparing Trout to greats of another era instead of the greats of his era. I don't know what it says about someone who wouldn't immediately put in the best player of a decade into the HOF. (or the third best player, etc)

HOF voting cares less and less about those milestones. 1) because they ignore defense, other parts of the game, and other valuable parts about batting and (2) the game is physically harder, fewer people are capable of being major leaguers until age 40 because a 22 year old who can hit 100 MPH will replace you.

In response to earlier quote.

The way Trout’s career has gone reminds me of Bobby Bonds. Bonds didn’t start till 22, but if Trout isn’t able to remain in the lineup, his numbers and career at the age of 33 quite possibly could be the best comparison for careers.

Mike Trout underwent successful surgery on Friday to repair the meniscus tear in his left knee.

Officially, Trout underwent a partial medial meniscectomy. While there’s still no official timetable for his return, the Angels remain optimistic that he’ll be able to return to the lineup at some point during the 2024 season.

I am thinking about purchasing a raw nmt/mt US175 at some point. What price point should I be shooting for between now and the off season? Willing to be very patient!

I asked a chat bot, is Mike Trout a Hall of Famer?

Yes, Mike Trout is undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer, and he is on track to be a first-ballot inductee. Here are the key points that solidify his Hall of Fame credentials:
Trout already has an incredible 85.2 career WAR at just 32 years old, which ranks 52nd all-time and first among active players.
Every eligible player ahead of him on the career WAR list is in the Hall of Fame.
His 7-year peak WAR of 68.4 is higher than the entire career WAR of the average Hall of Famer (67.4).
All 7 of his peak seasons are better than the best single season of an average Hall of Famer.
He is a 3-time MVP, tying him for 2nd most all-time with legends like A-Rod, Pujols, and Mantle.
Only Barry Bonds has more MVPs.
Trout already has over 1,600 hits, 1,100 runs, 950 RBIs, and 370 home runs at age 32.
While some milestones like 3,000 hits may be out of reach due to injuries, his rate stats are undeniably elite.
His career .301/.419/.590 slash line with a 173 OPS+ is on par with all-time greats like Mickey Mantle.
He could reach 400 home runs and 800 extra-base hits this season, passing numerous Hall of Famers on those leaderboards.
The only impediment has been injuries in recent years, but Trout's peak has been so transcendent that he is a lock for the Hall of Fame barring any shocking revelations.

Good to know A-Rod and Barry Bonds are in the Hall of Fame.

just read a report on Athlon Sports that "The Los Angeles Angels have confirmed that their star player, Mike Trout, will be sidelined until at least early August following knee surgery."

With Trout and injuries it is always longer rather than shorter. I bet we dont see him until September if at all.
