Larry Lester “I think George Floyd and Trayvon Martin and other people of color who have been traumatized, killed, have encouraged Major League Baseball to revisit the social concept of why we need to include the Negro League stats.”

I mean you've posted and deleted many of your comments before that were questionable and blamed it on meds and alcohol..and it wasn't a one time thing...so yeah some people are going to go there especially when you use terms like woke

Towards people using terms such as woke or making up history sure but outside of that there has been valid points from other people. Someone commented on lack of SO earlier and I'm just going to assume they weren't tracked in the box scores for whatever reason. Japanese stats have been mentioned multiple times for which I'll just say my thought is MLB stats are for domestic top division leagues. Although it would be fun if MLB.com included foreign league stats in their drop downs for fun comparisons. |

When is the Mexican League going to be included ? Many pros have been apart of that league as well. |

This thread is now officially more off the rails when compared to the threads of CJ Stroud or Ravens WR by the OP

I believe for a lot of the Negro League teams (especially the later years), played a lot of their games in either MLB stadiums (Forbes Field, Polo Grounds, etc) or in the case of Birmingham they played in the minor league stadium (Rickwood Field). But from my understanding, the fields were pretty similar.
I have no issues with it because at the end of the day, it really does not matter what I think. The only thing that concerns me is the number of at bats/innings a player played in a season and stating that they are the single season record holder. In that aspect, it feels like it is comparing apples to oranges. In regards to level of competition, from the various sources I have read from top to bottom it would slightly be below MLB level (AAAA?). That being said, a lot of the better teams would not have any issues going toe to toe with some of the top teams. I think the biggest difference would be that the bottom teams might have struggled against teams like the St Louis Browns or the Philadelphia Athletics (when Connie Mack sells off all the good players). Regardless, in each league there are good teams and bad teams. With Japanese League comparisons, the level of competition has often been considered AAA at best. The best players in each league would have been good/great players in MLB regardless. The biggest thing that tells me that the Negro Leagues were on par with MLB is Jackie Robinson. Robinson was not even considered a top 10 player in the Negro Leagues at that time. He was a good player, but wasn't considered one of the best. MLB teams were sort of slow in signing Negro League players afterwards because they feared about having too many Negro League players on the roster and was not sure how the fans reacted. If I take anything from what MLB has done, it is shedding some light on some of the forgotten players in baseball history. I don't ever really think that is a bad thing. |

I asked my husband about it and immediately he was like "Nooooo don't use that word!" He explained all about it and now I understand. My ignorance had nothing to do with racism and again, I don't use that word anyway. Just, I had no idea. Thankfully now I do. I understand language is fluid and I'm updating my current understanding of it quite often. This is one example of that. My point was simply that some people just aren't aware of these things. I wasn't. I would've felt horrible had I misused the term and offended someone. I'm glad it didn't happen. |

If I had $1 for every time some boomer doofus used the word “woke” correctly, I wouldn’t be able to buy a pack of 1994 Collectors Choice

I think this one is safe for now? No one has really crossed the lines, although some have come close, then backed off. Maybe it will go on in perpetuity!

It's not going to reduce interest in guys like Ty Cobb, but it could bump interest in guys like Gibson, Charleston, Leonard, etc. Cobb will still be seen as what he always was.
