Exactly, but it’s a much more difficult path playing hurt then healthy.

Yes it is and any injury no matter how minor can throw off a players routine. Just like this year when Ohtani was in his slump it was probably due to the hamstring bothering him. When healthy and going good there is nobody better than those 2. We saw Judge with a full healthy season hit 62 home runs and win an mvp. We saw Ohtani pitching and hitting great in his healthy season MVP’s but he also has lost prime numbers due to health issues. I like when all of the games top players are healthy and putting up the numbers they are capable of.

Not sure if I shared these yet. The Heritage was signed in person for me back in 2017 before an Atlanta Braves spring training game. Nobody really cared too much about getting his autograph back then but he would go on to have a historic rookie season. Now I'm sure it's a mob scene trying to get his autograph.

No question but in order to put up numbers, players need to sacrifice being 100% healthy and perform. I would have projected a healthy Pujols in 06 as having his greatest season ever as well as Cabrera in 13. Their seasons still might be there best ever but hitting 60 home runs while accumulating positive stats is nearly impossible being injured let alone hurt.

I don’t see Ohtani reaching the heights because he has multiple serious injuries to his body. Judge like Ohtani are huge players and it’s even tougher to remain healthy at their size.

Great job getting his autograph in person. I pulled his gypsy queen rc black and white autograph 40/99 out of a box that my wife gave me for Christmas.

What's your opinion of this 2017 (rookie year) Topps card?

Total PSA pop report is four (3 PSA 9; 1 PSA 10) for this foil card. Only 10% of the total number of this card are foil.

Background:

In 2017, Topps partnered with Sports Crate to create an exclusive 50-card set of MLB cards. Sports Crate was a a subscription-based concept that mailed a monthly mystery box of officially licensed goods and experiences. For a fee, fans received a box each month with items associated with a specific team. Each monthly mystery box contained one card. Five players on 10 teams (50 cards in total) were printed in the set.

Topps also created a limited foil set that was randomly inserted in 10 percent of Sports Crate team-focused subscriptions.

2017 Topps Sports Crate baseball cards have two different sets of numbers, with the first set featuring one card for each team. The complete master set corresponds with the second number and had 50 cards distributed via Sports Crate throughout the season.

So not pack issued.

Will always pale in comparison to similar pop cards from mainstream pack issues releases.

Correct. Not issued in packs. Still Topps, though... and, in comparison to many other Judge rookies, the rarity of the card is miniscule. I'd think there'd be decent demand for such a nice-looking card.

Bought a few raw Judge 2017 RC cards. Not been super happy with the cards that have been listed as nmt or better on Ebay. Was 2017 a year where the cards that were pack pulled more on the nrmt/mt side? Or is it just the fact that most people have already graded their mint or better cards? I have bought a ton of 2018 and 2019 raw Topps cards and raw cards are almost always nmt/mt or better condition that I buy on Ebay.

Buying raw on EBay is always risky, but if it's a key card that goes for big bucks in 10s, then it's likely a 9 at best. Check who you are buying from as well. If they sell a lot of graded cards then there's a reason that one isn't.

In 06 Pujols could have had a monster season the same way Judge looks to have. He played 143 games ended up with 119 runs, 177 hits, 33 2B, 1 3B, 49 HR’s, 137 RBI’s .331/.431/.671/1.102. He missed 15 consecutive games with a injury, had a period of 16 games where he looked like he was playing injured from July to early Aug. Cabrera was the same way in 2013, after playing 123 games out of 131 : 94 Runs, 170 Hits, 25 2B, 1 3B, 43 HR’s, 130 RBI’s, .359/.450/.688/1.137, then Cabrera looked like he needed a walker to reach first base and only hit 1 home run in his last 25 games.

Let’s hope playing through this pain doesn’t badly diminish Judges performance. I have a hard time seeing him not struggling for a period of time.
There's so much uncertainty in baseball. Some guys you figure would age really well end up falling off a cliff around 32-33 years old and are never the same. Other guys you figure would be washed out of the sport for years manage to put up monster seasons late into their 30s (Nelson Cruz as a recent example).

Couple of things Judge has going for him is he has always kept himself in top shape. You never see his weight fluctuate even in the offseason. In boxing its been understood for many years that the guys who blow up in weight between fights or go up and down weight classes tend to hit a wall sooner than later.

Secondly his prime has been so good that even if you slash his production by 30-50% in his age 34-37 seasons you're still talking about a really good offensive player and a lot of home runs. That bodes well for where he's going to finish up in all the important stat categories and for legacy purposes.
