Facts are players struggle. It’s part of the game since it started. No one can and no metric predict stardom. If they could, Byron Buxton would be having a HOF career by now.

Garbage? Very strong word.
Here’s why I believe Julio’s talent will win out, you can’t replicate his attitude/makeup. That intangible which comes off as genuine will see him through temporary challenge.

Im speaking to the fact that scouts, experts, eye test masters, and BO Metric geniuses have all missed on many prospects that were “can’t miss” sure things. It happens. So from that perspective, their career went from gold to garbage.

Julio very well could flame out and be another Justin Upton or Matt Kemp type guy. Loads of potential but fizzled. I personally don’t think so, but it’s not based on some analytical BS some math nerds cooked up playing fantasy baseball.

OPS is closing in on Carroll’s. On pace for 13.5 HRs. Unbelievable fall.

Why are you trolling JRod? You don't collect him. You collect pitchers and Juan Soto.

Ah, another “can’t post in my thread if it’s not positive” guy.

That's not what I said. I asked why you are trolling JRod? Clearly he has been terrible this year. Everyone that collects him I am sure is disappointed.

My question is what are you contributing? Now if in the past 2 years while he was playing well you said I am not going to collect him because in year 3 he is going to be terrible...well then you can troll all you want.

Do you ever see me go into player threads of players I don't collect? Normally I just post cards of players I collect and hope that player does we'll.

It's easy to be a Monday morning QB with no skin in the game. It hard in this market to collect players that perform well and card values go up.

I collect Juan Soto too. His cards aren't going up despite him being a Yankee and having an all star/MVP caliber year.

You also go into the Judge and Ohtani threads to comment when they are playing well. But I never really see you threads making predictions and acting on them or trying to give good advice to those that collect or invest.

So why the trolling of JRod. Why today?

I just want him to show up in the playoffs to support the M's pitchers. He's got plenty of career left to make up for a down year.

I like talking baseball. JRod sucks this year. It’s worth discussing what has happened to him. His reality is now that he’s performed worse each subsequent season in the league. It’s bad. He’s on the brink of being hobby cooked.

I don’t like thread trolls either, but I don’t think what Khal said was trolling. It is quite striking how poorly this season has gone so far for Julio. We all agree that Carroll is having a terribly season, and Khal was pouting out how Julio’s OPS is almost as bad as Carroll’s. Pointing it out isn’t trolling.

Were you here for BBases32 in the Yordan and Vlady Jr threads? THAT was trolling.

I mildly disagree with you here. Let’s say this season continues to be a disappointment for him, I still think he’s popular enough (with plenty of bag holders to boot), that if comes out and has an MVP season in 2025 he would be welcomed back with open arms (and wallets) by collectors.

I used to do that - very minimally, but boy did it backfire just about every time. I’m now in the “if you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t …. “ mindset. A few YEARS ago I said 1 or 2 negative things in the Bryce Harper Thread about him, and I STILL get it thrown back in my face from time to time.

You thought elephants never forget? BO never forgets!

I generally avoid threads of players I don’t like/collect/follow (which is why you don’t see me in the Trout thread ), but I do think you should be allowed to acknowledge a player is struggling.

Its because people have there 401ks tied up in baseball cards so they take everything so personal, its sad to a point.

It might not be a bad thing to be hobby cooked. Hobby good comes with high expectations and high prices, and a likely outcome of flat, or down. My best buys on Ohtani and Judge came when they weren't the top tier of hobby good.

I am hoping he turns it around. Have him in my fantasy keeper league and I'm not going to trade him. I was watching the Ms game last night and the announcer mentioned his only home runs were off fastballs and he is swinging and missing at any changeup then the pitcher proceeded to throw three straight breaking balls to strike him out.

Last year his slg was consistent across fastball, breaking, and offspeed. Now its down across the board, but breaking he went from .489 to .255 and for offspeed .494 to .159. He's just completely lost this year. Even is expected slg is awful .366 on breaking, .244 on offspeed.

finally picked up his First Sapphire. it's headed west first because of the original BIN price (Thanks eBay) so it should be here in about two weeks.

it's a great time to add to your collection!

WHAT ?!!! you don’t like Trout ?!?!! - ( just kidding )

Although I agree with you, it’s still common to get jumped on by others if you mention a Player is struggling within their own Thread. It’s like there are digital turf wars here, and a Player Thread is sacred ground / positive only

I remember seeing that his exit velocities were consistently good (don't know if they still are). Made me wonder if he's swinging too hard (out of control).

That’s what it’s all about these days. The Catcher has the hitter’s “data” right on his forearm now, and the outfielder has their spray chart on a card in his pocket. I like the players who step up to wear #44 (mostly Pitchers these days), but today’s game ain’t how Hank had to do it.

Disappointing yes, but he can still have a big second half to save some face.

I agree he’s very popular. He was the one player left since 2018 that I thought had the special sauce to be a hobby superstar. Right position, right team, big energy.

He’s just so far off now from what would be considered an okay baseball player. This season isn’t an aberration. He had a hot August which salvaged his otherwise terrible 2023 season. Having an MVP season in 2025 is improbable. Even if he does it, there will be too many questions surrounding him for the hobby to start piling in. Not to mention the death spiral everything ultra modern is in.
