Here’s a weird one … someone bought the above blue label 9.5 gem mint from me and reslabbed it. As many know, CGC changed out of the blue label and also announced old blue label 9.5 gem mints could be submitted to be reslabbed for the new black label gem mint 10. However, this guy lucked out and his reslab jumped a grade to the highest gold pristine 10 label. I’m bummed because. Just got an email from CGC that one of my blue label 9.5 reslabs was damaged in reslabbing and gets a 9.5 in new label not 10 as advertised. I apparently get a $25 credit for the damage (not enough tbh.. you don’t submit to CGC for them to damage your cards the whole point is to protect) + $8 refund of fee (nothing has posted yet tho).

That doesn't make any sense as the reslab does not include regrading the card. They are literally just supposed to remove it from the 9.5 holder and put it in a 10 holder. Seems more likely someone made a mistake and stuck it in the pristine 10 holder instead of the gem mint 10 holder, as no regrading is taking place when they swap these holders. I doubt they even have their grading team touching these, as it's just busy work.

Also, I don't see how a sketch card can ever grade a 10 pristine, which is supposed to be a card basically never touched by human hands, getting the white glove treatment from pack to top loader. No cards get handled more than sketch cards, LOL.

Default Show Off Your CGC Marvel Trading Card Slabs

I’m seeing more and more marvel in the new black format label in eBay searches etc. I guess it doesn’t affect me since I’m not buying graded…..but I just don’t know about these. I think CGC should have stuck with the comic labels…was more distinctive and this new format is really bland.

Do 9s or 10s from CGC even see that much premiums? Grading in general isn’t my thing but I think having so many different grading companies, each with its own pops, makes the whole thing even more convoluted.

I miss the CGC blue label. I felt it was perfect for Marvel cards as it matched well with CGC’s popular comic slab labels.

My understanding is that when CSG/CGC merged the move to a uniform black label was probably CGC’s attempt to gain some ground in the sports card slab market. I think they will continue to have a hard time getting much traction there, so it’s a shame to lose the blue label for the Marvel stuff.

One good thing about the CGC changes is that they are now slabbing a wider variety of nonsports properties beyond Star Wars/Marvel. I have quite a few Dinosaurs sketch slabs pending and I like the look of the slab with Dinosaur and artist name listed on the label.

In hindsight, I wish I would have named this thread more generally as “show off your nonsports slabs” as I’ve started slabbing stuff through PSA since COMC brought that option back a couple months ago.

Here is a cool Mickey Mouse comic cover achievement card that I got a PSA 10 on. I love this set!

I love the way the black plates in the recent Spider-verse set have the caption and the black and white serves to capture a lot of the detail of the base card image. These 2 slabs I got back today turned out great…

I’m curious how a plate can get a 10 when it is literally used in the process of making the card, or are the plates in packs unused versions of the ones used to print?

I don't think these are actual printing plates, more like replicas. A real plate would have to be mirror-image if it's used to print directly on a card sheet.

This isnt the case for how many of these cards are made, they use an indirect process called off-set printing I think, where it's printed first onto a roller then onto the card. For paper-based cards at least. So printing plates of regular wont usually have images reversed since the image is flipped twice in the process. I think they are probably the real plates used.

It's chromium type cards that have images reversed usually on plates- see Topps Chrome or like Marvel Vibranium, since they are printed a different way.

As for the grade, I guess they just grade them as usual, and it's possible some get 10s. The metal edges and corners probably helps since there arent really issues of corner wear and dinged corners etc.

I watched the Deadpool x Wolverine movie last night and loved it. I'm planning to have CGC slab these at San Diego Comic Con tomorrow. Any advice? It'll be my first time grading cards through them.

Congrats on the 10s..... quick question when grading a plate to get a high grade does the sticker on the back have to be straight and centered?

I don’t know how the sticker affects grading but I don’t think it being off center would necessarily affect the grade.. I think if color is on the sticker that might be a ding but the bulk of the grade from what I’ve seen is whether the plate itself is scratched up or not.

Very nice -- good selection. CGC seems to go easier on card grades than the other big three graders.

Well thats good to know for future reference...

Oh and nice mickey cut... I agree this would be better now if it were just a non sports slab thread... I'm feeling left out on this one because all my stuff I've got back recently is psa
