"looking pretty dark"

Lights are out. Power's out. Grid is down. Power plant has burned to the ground.

And no one is coming to fix it.

I just did a look for ebay recently sold autos ... if you can get $300-400 for anything, go get it. Lots in that area.

I'm assuming these are all buyers who think they're super smart investing in a distressed asset. Oy.

His top-end stuff still sells. There are always people who want to hold onto the glory, or something.

Dont let that fool you though. Trevor Bauer is still out of the league. Wander somehow skates in the DR and he is still blackballed from the MLB I assume.

I’m guessing Wander hair cards are being collected to be used as evidence right now.

Bit of a different contractual situation....Wander is under contract....Bauer became a free agent and nobody wanted to sign him.

If Wander does not get convicted of something, I don't think that MLB and the Rays still have legal grounds to suspend him.

Wasn't Bauer under contract and the Dodgers released him when the false allegations happened?

MLB can do its own investigation and there's more than enough smoke here to suspend him for way longer than Bauer. That said, if they don't suspend Wander more than they did Bauer that's further evidence that mlb just wanted Bauer gone.

According to his Wikipedia page, the Dodgers released him on January 12th, 2023, at the conclusion of his (arbitrator-reduced) 194-game suspension. However, they still had to pay him what he was due on his contract for the 2023 season (around $34 million, I believe).

Wander, however, is signed until 2032, and is due another $173 million dollars, due to the extension he signed with the Rays in 2022. So you can bet that if MLB and/or the Rays try to take any action that deprives him of that $$$ in the absence of any conviction/legal sanctions in the DR, his lawyers will fight tooth and nail to protect his financial interests.

Yes, the Rays could release him.....but they'd still owe him that $$$.

And while MLB has legal grounds to suspend somebody without pay DURING an investigation, I doubt that they do after the conclusion of the investigation if said player is not found guilty of anything.

Probably need to get one of the lawyers on the board to chime in to be certain how all this might play out.....

The million-dollar question (literally) is whether the standard MLB contract allows for said contract to be voided absent a criminal conviction.

Zero correlation to Bauer, but it's apparently a fun game to play.

Regardless, this recent discussion seems to overlook the most important part of the Franco situation...he needs a visa to enter in the United States (and Canada).

Right now, getting a work visa seems unlikely.

Without a work visa, MLB and the Rays really don't need to do much other than leave him on the restricted list, without pay.

Wander mania brought me back in to the hobby. People would laugh at me now but it was HUGE and I still own a lot of his cards. There are a lot of holier than thou people in this hobby. They always talk about the good guys and the bad guys of the hobby as if they are the all-holy judge of that. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Free Wander!

Good point. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Can mlb leave him on the restricted list without any charges if they are dropped? Is the mlbpa ok with it since everyone pretty much knows what was going on?

Regardless of the charges being dropped, if he can't get a visa, he can't fulfill his contract. Therefore he'd stay on the restricted list, and no one would need to waste any time even trying to void the contract as there is no need.

The charges he's facing are permanent bans from the US. Even lesser charges, being related to a minor would fall into a permanent ban territory.

If the charges are dropped AND the US grants him a visa, MLB and the Rays will then need to decide what they each want to (try to) do.
