No kidding. The designs are simple and bland, and the artwork chosen is dull.

But people see Marvel and Topps Chrome pairing up and they think it must be good.

Because they are trying to squeeze as much as possible from those who are willing to pay the highest prices. They also don't want buyers like yourself instantly flipping their products. They didn't pay for the Disney licenses just so flippers could make easy profits off their products.

I have no faith in Fanatics producing good reasonably priced products. If you think some of the current UD stuff is overpriced wait until you get Fanatics.....
more watered down with 25 different parallels, higher production runs, higher prices. Better pulls for breakers, etc etc
Cant wait! /s

I think fanatics at least gives a good retail price for the TC Marvel at £180 this time, the flippers make the profit tough. I am not sure how much of the products do fanatics sell on UK site, and how much do they sell to distributors directly.

If you want to open a box of fanatic cards. You have to pay for all 30 spots in a group break now

That’s how wax is priced now .

Pristine baseball
Composite football
Chrome basketball
Chrome marvel

Just this week. See your local casino for some gambling fun

Exactly my point. Don’t forget Star Wars chrome. I really would rather the real casino at this point

Almost all casino games give you significant better odds, you can blow them on singles afterwards (IF you win

The base looks highly digitalized straight out of new comics, I’m not a fan. (it’s also reminding how much I’m not a fan of the direction of art in new comic books as well).

It has a generic/cheapo look because of this. But I fully expected this with a topps chrome release.

They did do the artist legends autos and even sketches by Miller (no matter how rare they are), but overall this is a set that doesn’t do much for me at all. If Fantatics is just putting out digitalized/rehashed art sets if/when they get the US marvel license, I’ll be saving a lot of money at least (….which will likely go to UD DC masterpieces).

Breakers are not making money selling singles (or maybe they are) - the income stream comes from Youtube etc. It's not about the cards, its about the views. If you want to stay in this game you have to become a video breaker, or get very lucky.

They take the singles and turn them into repack breaks. Just another revenue stream.

I’m really looking forward to this product! It seems like it has a lot of the same features as Topps Chrome Disney plus the addition of sketches, artist autographs, the Frank Miller chase and also oversized box toppers. Should be a fun rip!

Boxes have been flying off of eBay since the drop finalized earlier today, and it’s been a bit of a hassle trying to secure some boxes since all of the sellers are overseas. I’ve been able to grab a few but have also had a couple orders cancelled already, so we’ll see how it goes once they get the boxes in hand. With this being a UK release I’m just not sure if there will be a good option in the US outside of eBay to find boxes in the near future.

I’ve seen on X that Blowout and D&A are paying $500 to sell boxes to them so the big retailers will definitely have them but you’ll be paying an arm and a leg for them surely.

Sheesh, if they're paying $500 I can only imagine what they'll sell them for.

Yea I saw that too. I’ll probably end up buying some from them eventually if I decide I want to rip in bulk, but am trying to start my average price lower by taking a chance on some UK boxes. Half the listings I was offering on earlier were getting bought out too quick to keep up with but I’ve still been able to grab some. I’m waiting now to see if another wave of sellers list boxes because most of the lowest priced listings currently are from the same seller who has multiple negatives for cancelling orders.

90s master set collecting is gone. I’d argue UD already killed it off, but this is a whole ‘nother level. It’s just gonna be one of those “mini master set” things.

I’m not even sure there are many set collectors left in marvel these days. It’s usually character collectors or people dealing in singles and flipping and such. It’s just very expensive as a master set collector anymore.

double. at least for the first week. then once all the whatnot vultures start streaming it, it'll jump to $1500.

People seem to forget how hot Disney Chrome got. They were selling for about $150 for the UK release, then $300 once US ebay sellers got their hands on it, then jumped towards $1000/box once the WhatNot Hype/FOMO engine started churning.

Look at it now, months after release... $10k/case on ebay.

It’s nice to see fellow set collectors. I’m thinking more in terms of recent stuff….Spiderman Metal, FU Wolverine, MM22, Platinum etc. Are that many people really putting master sets together anymore (50 card palladium sets, Mirage sets, Battle Gem sets, 30 card jambalaya sets, 80+ card purely periodic sets, 25 card geode sets- some of those with SPs and SSPs), not to mention the million parallel sets and PMGs. I’m sure some people are picking and choosing some sets to go nuts on, but to collect sets more generally (master or even mini-master) has nearly went the way of the dinosaurs.

The Marvel Chrome set in general does not seem like a set collectors kind of set, but we’ll see. The one thing it does have is the insert sets seem to be capped around 10 cards, which is a step forward. (If you ignore the multiple insert sets having no base version).

Solid original art? I think they have a point, the art on the base looks generic and bland (being art reused from comics im guessing). A set like MM16 seemed to appease most people and wasn’t much pessimism on it from the boards that I recall (besides the high price, which by today’s standards is laughably low). I would say Marvel Platinum was for the most part well received outside the parallel glut in it. Original art seems to be a common theme.

On the other hand the art barely even matters for a lot of those buying into this. PMGs had reused art and were among the most targeted inserts during the pandemic to hype up and boost in value.
