I'm still kicking myself for not just "overpaying" for a #700 black in early 2023 when I bought my other #700 parallels. The prices have skyrocketed so much on that card I'm not sure I would even buy one now if one became available "at comps."

So I want to pick up an Ohtani rookie this offseason. I want to grab one from 2018 Topps Heritage. Which ones were short printed? I can’t grab an auto so ideally want an SP or SSP

I disagree with this advice. The #600 Sho time (nick name variant) is a great card in my opinion. It is a ssp with like a print run of 400 or something. I know you are obsessed with gold and black....but I think this card is one a lot of collectors would like to own.

I say this as a Heritage collector… not many people dive deep into the variations.

I think I’ll go for the regular refracted then since it’s still numbered. I have the 2012 Harper heritage and it’s to 1000 copies made. I appreciate the help!

My problem with the variations is they look way too much like the base card. I can't stomach paying a huge premium just because the card says SHO TIME instead of Shohei Ohtani.

A PSA 10 is about 10K, a 9 or even a blocky 9.5 can be had for much less

They can upcharge to the amount that they feel the card is now worth. If that BC sterling achieves a 10, it's likely at least a $15-18K card. That would place it in the "premium 1" tier, which is $799 (up to $25K value). If you get the auto graded too, it's $1099 for premium 1.
