Wow, that's sad. I always liked him as a player.

Other than the questionably blunt and direct thread title and post, Mr. Matumbo was really fun to watch and from what I understand was a thoughtful charitable man with a larger than life heart.

He's the reason you have to wag your finger playing streetball when getting a block or nice defensive stop

RIP Dikembe

I was sort of thinking the same thing, but this day and age I chalk it up to its all about posting it as quick as you can before anyone else does.

Mutumbo was quite the character and really fun to watch. I miss the days of the defensive centers. Still will never forget his Denver team taking out the juggernaut Sonics. He was a huge part of that. Man was blocking everything.

RIP Dikembe
That thought came to me as well. He was a fun player to watch and by all accounts a good person. I even got a chuckle out of the Geico commercials he was in more recently. RIP Dikembe Mutumbo.

RIP Mount Mutombo. One of the most underrated players ever. Made every team he was on better.

Was it known he was suffering? I don't remember hearing anything about it.

Eulogize Dikembe Mutumbo on the occasion of his death
ChatGPT said:
ChatGPT
Today, we gather to honor the life and legacy of Dikembe Mutombo, a giant not just in stature but in spirit, whose presence was felt both on and off the basketball court. He may have towered at 7'2", but his heart, generosity, and commitment to making the world a better place were even greater than his imposing frame.

Mutombo was an immovable force—a defensive titan whose shot-blocking prowess redefined the game. With every rejection, punctuated by that iconic wagging finger, he reminded opponents of the immensity of his reach, not just physically, but in his ability to change outcomes. Four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, an eight-time All-Star, and a Hall of Famer—his numbers speak to a career of dominance, but his true greatness transcended basketball.

While he turned away countless shots on the court, off the court, Dikembe never turned away from those in need. He was a humanitarian first, using his fame and fortune to uplift communities, especially in his native Congo, where he built hospitals, funded education, and worked tirelessly to improve lives. His foundation brought hope where there was none, and through his work, he became a global ambassador for compassion and service.

Dikembe Mutombo wasn’t just an NBA legend; he was a beacon of kindness, a reminder that the greatest among us are those who give back. He blocked shots with ferocity but opened his heart to the world with even greater force. Today, the world loses a gentle giant, a man whose voice and actions resonated beyond the arena and into the souls of everyone he touched.

Rest in peace, Dikembe. Your finger may no longer wag in defiance, but your legacy will forever stand tall.

R.I.P. Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo

Might be the one man on Earth that his personality and stature was bigger than his full name. He helped so many in Congo and all over the world.

Always had a smile on his face.

Loved his Geico commercials. "Not in my house. No,no,no"

He will be missed.

Great player who loved others. When you live to serve others like he did, you always live a full life, even though he passed relatively early.

RIP, Dikembe. Your 1991 Upper Deck RC against the Denver skyline will always be a classic.

What was so insensitive? He is dead. It’s unfortunate but that’s life.

You have no clue how to show respect properly. This was a good man and an NBA legend. You don’t just write “Mutombo dead”. That’s the kind of thing you might write for a murderer. It’s tacky and insensitive. And you spelled his name wrong on top of it.

You’re right.

I will be dead at some point and someone will write, “Heel dead”.
