I was also heavily invested in Andrew Luck at one point before he abruptly retired from the NFL and my Vladdy collection peaked at $200K at one point and is now worth about $30K. If you’re looking for advise, stay far away from me.

Looking at the OP and first couple comments. Saying that only the Fernandez cards were kinda good?

As of July 2015, when the post happened, Machado already had a top 10 MVP finish, a GG, and his 2nd AS selection.

Freddie was a 2 time AS and 2 top 25 MVP, with 2nd place ROY.

And Ryu missed the 2015 season.

You obviously weren’t collecting around then and didn’t see the hype with Ryu or the values of the other cards they tried to replace them with. When someone offers you half the going rate for your redemption or redemptions, it doesn’t matter if it’s Mike Trout, Lebron James, or Patrick Mahomes.

This should show a better evaluation of value on that trade off. Either way they tried to give me about half the value they owed me at the time. Now if only I could’ve predicted the future and held that card for 9 years until this massive run. It never would’ve happened because I moved the Ryu collection a year or two later anyways.

Yeah, everybody told you back then that it looked like a fair trade.

Most that post in comments don’t take the time to do their due diligence and assess the current market before commenting. That’s why so many claimed they thought it was a good deal. It wasn’t until a more intelligent person took the time to see that it wasn’t a good trade (at that time) and posted the comment I just bumped.

Good to see you’re a freaking wizard. If only I had your powers to see the future.

No, not a wizard.

Look at what I posted. Machado and Freeman were already becoming big names.

You don't have to be a wizard to know that position players hold value way better than pitchers. Even back in 2015 that was true.

In due time you will get a trade offer for half of the going rate of the redemption Topps or Panini fails to send you and then you can talk to me about fair trade offers.

Let me replace your Paul Skenes Superfractor 1/1 auto for a Patrick Mahomes card worth half the value. But Patty was already a two-time Super Bowl winner and MVP. You should’ve known to take the deal.

I’m not bummed at all. There would be ZERO chance I’d own the card today if I did accept that offer from Topps. Just cool to look back and see a card that big being offered up as a replacement. His base autos were only around $20 back then when Ryu’s were fetching $60+. Crazy times

I actually have a Ryu Gold Refractor Redemption. I wonder if they'll send me a Gold Refractor Freeman now. Ha

Topps pre-Fanatics was actually a pretty well run organization. I imagine today you would get a bunch of tacofractors...

I had outstanding redemptions for yoan moncada.
Topps randomly sent me gavin lux and a dodgers pitching prospect without asking.

Wish they would have contacted me. I would have said give me any white Sox cards. What the #@#@#@#@ am I going to do with dodgers cards?’

They valued the red refractor auto at $150. One just sold for $1k.. I don’t fault you for not keeping the Freddie. Sure would’ve been cool if you did and held it until now though.

2013 Topps Chrome Auto Rookie Variation Red Refractor Parallel of Hyun-Jin Ryu 25 is valued at $150.

I appreciate the OP wanted to hold Topps accountable. I also appreciate the honesty in admitting things didn't work out as planned.

Bumping almost ten year old threads just to dunk on people for leaving money on the table is one of my favourite things about Blowout.

To be fair, the OP is the one who bumped it.

A kind member reached out to let me know someone linked it in the FF5 thread so I figured why not at least bring it to the top. I’m not upset at all about it. Just funny to see the wizards commenting as if they could’ve predicted the future outcome of that offer. Poor JoFer with that tragic accident shortly after as well. You just never know and I try to base my decisions on CURRENT value, not FUTURE value as I’m probably the worst at trying to predict those things. Topps ended up sending me all of the on-card autos and then sent me a random replacement worth about $10 for that jumbo patch sticker auto. I was overseas at the time and couldn’t get it sorted out.

Pretty disgusting that companies like Topps and Panini got away with so much of that criminal activity. They’ve probably got away with screwing collectors out of millions in unfilled redemptions that turn into replacements over the past decade. I’ve seen some success stories but I’ve never been on the receiving end of one of those.
