Just to get this documented, a Google search of "2024 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Case" still shows this:

Can't stress enough how much fun this is!

But why in the world would Topps sell cases for less than $4500 if BO put up a standing bid at that price? So flippers could take Topps’ margin? It’s frustrating and annoying but not sleazy.

because fanatics/topps say they are growing the hobby....regardless of pricing, selling to a big box store to then mark up even more isn't helping your average hobbiest

But there’s a finite amount of product. Selling to BO vs selling to you doesn’t make a difference to the size of the hobby.

This hobby is becoming death by a 1000 cuts for me. Between this and even worse the Holiday fiasco today it's just all getting tiresome. I know I know boo hoo and no one will miss me if I'm gone but I can't be the only one feeling this way.

Your hobby enthusiasm is linked to hyped drops that none of us rarely get? Sounds like you are in the wrong hobby my friend. Find something that doesn't irritate you. I wanted these today too, but I knew going into it that it probably wouldn't happen. The entire economy seems to have a lot of sidelined money rolling back into it so things won't get better. Find some joy in it or find something else that brings you joy. Life is too short.

Not sure why Topps doesn't just print to demand. Give everyone a week to preorder then print.

You would then have to give topps your money for 8 months before they ship anything...

I mean what is wrong with this model? Consumers all get a chance to buy and it is printed to what the demand is.

I mean that's how a preorder works. Alternatively people can continue to cry they weren't able to buy anything.

They do it with Topps Now.

Oh wow. I thought you were being sarcastic with your post, but here you are doubling down.

Nobody should have to explain why this is a terrible idea.

Then everyone complains because the print run is so large you have to rip 5 cases to get a base autograph.

I get it. But I remind myself that the hobby that I actually got into wasn't predicated on cases that cost more than a mortgage payment and trying to beat bots on a timed release.

I've had a lot of fun stalking early 2000s inserts and obscure releases that I wasn't able to land 20 years ago.

I do miss the prospecting chase, but that aspect has died a slow death due to a lot of other factors.

Yeah, it is sleazy. Why bother even offering them to the public at all?

So Fanatics goes in wanting to get rid of the middleman so that they can pocket more cash. "Going to sell direct to the consumer so there's a better hobby experience!".
I mean, pulling case sales and selling to a middleman is pretty much doing exactly what they said they wanted to eliminate.
How far off are we from the big 3 just being their distributors.

All of this boggles the mind.

The print run could also be smaller. It goes both ways.

I completely agree as well. I'm on the sleazy side.

They were listed on the coming soon page. They had all intentions to have them. Then a random bounty supposedly comes in (I didn't see it) from an avenue that Fanatics obviously colludes with, then poof they're gone. Next thing you know, the fancy "Sold out? Find it now on Fanatics Live" logo magically appears on the single box OOS page.

Countless companies have products that they know could sell higher on the secondary (loose term when talking about Fanatics since they basically price their products as their own Secondary, but thats a whole other scumbag argument). Does Scotty Cameron pull his Limited putters when he knows they'll go for double? No. Does Pokemon stop-sale when they know they have something that will sell for 4x retail? No. I can go on and on.

It's comical.

In your heart of hearts, would you trust Michael Rubin to watch your dog if you went out of town for the weekend?

I wouldn't trust him to keep an eye on my dog while I sneezed.

Rube would steal his dog, force it to do tricks and sell tickets to watch it.

Exactly. These guys are value vampires. Michael might be a real vampire.

His life purpose is to raise capital, extract value, and flip the company. Rubon didn't get wealthy leaving money on the table.

His purpose is not predicated on doing the right thing.
