If you've gotten a US261 Austin Slater, I'm a buyer.

Great news, just received an email from Topps, my Judge/Soto redemption is being sent out!
I should have a nice pic to post in a few days

Holiday cheers, and this would put the TAT ~ 6 weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving all,

It’s purple gambling week - BOGO50% off = 25% off pairs of trading card packages at Meijer.

I just stick to my usual 2 packs a week habit. I’ve been hitting Rookie Pirates Pitchers, too - so far the card with Grandal, and that Jared guy.

That Jared guy may end up a really good pitcher.
He’s no Strasburg but at current singles prices I’d much prefer him to Skenes in the medium term tbh.

Printing plates are cool, but a real printing plate should be reversed since they are applied to the paper and lifted revealing the correct image as we see in cards.

Crazy, base flagship psa10 currently at $110 on ebay w/ 3 days to go. Probstein so def could be shilled.

For comparison Ohtani 2018 update us1, $110

Skenes base rookie price currently valued as a sure fire 1st ballot HOFer like Ohtani, absolutely wild.

Go look at any newspaper printing plate and you'll see that you're wrong.

Printing plates for chrome cards have reversed images. Plates for paper cards have a true image as pictured above.

Correct.

This is because paper cards use "offset printing" where the ink is applied to the plate, then transferred from the plate to a rubber roller (reversing the image), then from the roller to the blank paper (reversing it again).

With chrome stock, the ink is transferred directly from the plate to the card stock, so it only gets reversed once.

Oh I’ve been paying medium attention ever since Bob Walk clued me in back during Spring Training. So the purple was a nice pull but getting a choice card # with those is only half the prize; no chance at even just a 9 on my copy.

iirc, Judge base rookies briefly went into triple digits in mid-17, too.

Skenes mania feels to me remarkably similar to Strasburg mania. At least Washington got 2019 out of the deal. I struggle to not see Gerrit Cole whenever Skenes crosses my screen(s), and that’s a bummer.

Only chrome plates are reversed and that's because of how the plastic is flipped before being stuck to the surface of the card. The standard card is a just straight down onto the paper, and doesn't need to be in a negative form as I understand it.

I follow the Tigers medium closely and I don’t know who TJ Hopkins even is. More of that roster “churn” I guess, their specialty. For Topps, too, when it comes to the Tigers.

So I ‘did my own research’ and discovered I missed his 41 AB at some point in 2023. Truly worthy of a 2024 Update RC, I guess. Must’ve been while working over in Wisco, where there is a bar with a faithful crew of Brew Crew fans who assemble for every game.

You missed those at bats because he was on the Reds.

He has played 22 games in the Tigers organization... at AA Erie. He hit .190 and his last game he appeared in was on May 7th

There was no reason for Topps to put put a card of him in a Tigers uniform in 2024 Update.

Thanks vdub! The wobbly tryptophan turkey buzz was hitting a little hard last night after 2nd breakfast Thanksgiving dinner.

I find these types of pointless Tigers cards basically annually now; accuracy on the part of Topps seems to decline in flyover country though maybe this afflicts Mariners & Marlins cards too, dunno. A fair while back now Topps was a strong supporter of the retired MLB scouts organization and I always figured a few of them helped out with the set composition decisions. These days the idea of checklist spots going to as many semi-stars and veterans as possible (Reliever? No soup for you.) has been seemingly junked in favor of checklists as full of cups-of-coffee players as possible. Because moar Rookies is moar better. I particularly laugh at checklists holding ‘inner circle’ HoFers next to one month career guys.

At least this year in Series One I finally got my 0 AB Rookie Card card, which had been prophesied.

I am enjoying 24 Update though as The Neon is such a strong design.

You take the best of em… Nolan Ryan, Sandy Koufax… then you take a Mantle, a Mays, or an Aaron… Skenes could be the best pitcher of the modern game, but if he’s not hitting HR’s or stealing bases as well, he’s at best, the second greatest player of his time.
