the guy with 6-10 tables, you may be referring to tim payne from iowa.

he has overhead lamps on each of his cases and organizes by year.

really good guy, amazing stuff. prices.....a smidge on the high side, BUT,
he moves a ton of product, so, maybe it's just me. i do like him alot and
have bought select cards from him over the years.

the guy in joliet was tommy larsen, he's "huge", has AMAZING inventory.
again, prices a smidge on the high side, but, pretty easy to deal with.
he also moves a TON of upper end product.
(i also set up at the last joliet show lol, but my collection pales in comparison to tommy's)

The vintage booth that stood out to me was a gentleman who I bought a 1956 Topps Mays from at The National when it was in Chicago. He had 6-10 tables and the cards were ordered by year from the 40s-50s with multiple cards for HOFS for each year. That's not uncommon to see at a show but his collection really stood out from the rest, I felt. He was pretty busy so I didn't dig through any of his cards. Saw a good vintage collector that I saw setup in Joliet one time, too.

Yes, you're right on both names. I tried to buy a 1956 Topps Jackie off of Tommy at the Joliet show. Passed. Picked up the same card from him a month or two later at last year's spectacular for the price that I walked away from in Joliet.

Picked up my very first 1953 Bowman Color baseball card!
Don't recall ever owning one.
Don't think I have ever owned a St. Louis Browns card either.
It is miscut but has nice color and registration.

Clint Courtney was a catcher in the majors for six different teams from 1951 to 1961.
After retiring he became a coach and while managing the minor league Richmond Braves, died of a heart attack at the age of 48.
He had been playing ping pong with his players while on a road trip to Rochester, NY.

Some nice cards in the mail today. Love the Wheaties cards, up to about 10 of them now.

Just picked these up today at my local antique mall. It’s my first dabble into these types of cards but I thought they were cool. Did I overpay…….who knows. There are so few sales of these types of cards I had to make an educated guess

1927 Exhibits Goslin - PSA 5
1927 Exhibits Bancroft - PSA 4.5

P.S. If anyone knows of a good resource for pricing these cards (other than eBay and 130 point) please let me know. It's very difficult to come up with a concrete comp with the resources I know. Thanks

The only way to comp these cards is to use these resources and pick players that are similar. There are only 13 Goslin's graded with PSA and 15 Bancroft's. With low pop numbers it is difficult.

Yep. I had been looking for that one for a while. Wound up getting a higher grade than I needed when that one appeared at the LCS along with a “recently discovered” collection of hundreds of other T206’s.

Joss is terribly underrated, IMO. One of the best pitchers of the first decade of the 20th century, but largely forgotten because he died so young. He remains the only member of the HOF who didn’t play in 10 full seasons.

Ross Youngs only played 9 full seasons before succumbing to Bright's disease. He appeared in 10 seasons, but only 7 games of the 1917 season.

This is at least the third Eck rookie I've owned.

I bought a PSA-9 O-Pee-Chee in 2017 because I couldn't believe the price (and pop-report) compared to the PSA-9 Topps price at the time. Well, I guess OPC caught up, or the crazy times took over, but the OPC sold for ~10x in 2022.

I had a PSA-8 Topps and I continued looking for a nice Topps PSA-9, but never won the auctions for the nicer ones.

I also sold the PSA-8 when it more than doubled, so I was left with no Eck.

Until this PSA-1 came up for auction last week for $10 with free shipping. Sold to me for $10.60 delivered. I thought the excess black ink near the bottom border could be a staple hole. No holes. It has a light crease from upper right to lower left, diagonal across the card. High spot on the front, wrinkly on the back.

The desire to sell correlates to increase in value. I don't see this one moving much, so hopefully I can hold onto it.

Got a COMC order in today. Will post more with pickups when I go through the cards. Here are two really neat "cards." The 1936 Wheaties is missing part of the fancy border, but it is an absolute gorgeous alternative to the very few Hartnett cards out there for a fraction of the price. Well, if you can find them.

Likely the last mailday of 2024!

Something about the old school Cubs logo on this one really made me want it. Also pairs well with my T206 Evers of him with his bat on his shoulder.

Been a great year of collecting. Here are a few affordable recent random grabs from the local card show for the ol' post war raw vintage collection.

Last pickups of 2025.

1. Not a card, but I have searching for a single signed Tommy Bridges ball for almost 10 years to no avail. I've already got him on three team balls, but they are all in good enough shape I don't want to display them. I was happy to grab this 1938 Ball in the last REA auction for a very good price. The ball only features a couple of signatures (Hank Greenberg, Rudy York, Bridges, and two others), but the Bridges is alone on a panel and works as perfect display piece.

2. Finished the Nashville T206 Subset with this Ellan, a Christmas gift from my wife.

Happy Holidays All!
