Default Players from your team that never made it to pack-pulled cardboard?

What the title said. There's a few players for every team that just never made it to licensed, pack-pulled sets whilst invisible 6th round pre-camp cuts have pro cards. The real crime is history has forgotten some of these really notable folks.

For the Niners?

John Ayers (G/T) - logged 10 years, almost all starting, with the Niners on 2 Super Bowl Teams. Appeared in regional sets, never in mainstream.

Hardy Brown (LB) - Career stretched over 12 years in Pro Football, 5 with the Niners and was known as one of the hardest hitters ever, knocking opposing players out on a routine basis. Portrayed recently in the film 12 Mighty Orphans. Appeared on a regional milk box card, but should have been in Bowman.

Bill Ring (RB) - Played 6 years and won 2 Super Bowls with the 49ers and was a fan favorite for his hard nosed running style and special teams play. The local papers ran articles when he was cut. Only card was school-issued Stanford coach card from the early 90s.

Dan Bunz (LB)- Spent 7 years with the Niners, winning 2 Super Bowls. He's the reason the 49ers won their first Super Bowl. Not Montana. His goal line defense against then-unstoppable Pete Johnson was a difference maker. Showed up on a Jeno's Pizza promo card and a Pro Set Super Bowl card.

Adam Snyder (G) - 10 year career, 8 with the Niners (mostly as a starter). Only Cards - 2 Oregon school-issued cards.

Wally Yonamine - Ok, his football career was not long (1947) but coming off of the internment era for Japanese Americans, his signing to the Niners is historically notable as is his Japanese Hall of Fame career. A trailblazing multi-sport athlete. Has baseball cards, but no Pro Football cards.

I don’t care about other years. Just the rookie year. Grady Jarrett in Falcons uniform with the RC logo.

Cool post!

Yeah John Ayers just has the McDonalds game cards.

I have a special place in my heart for him. He went to what was then West Texas State University now West Texas A&M. My dad went there as did I. It’s in a small town 15 miles south of Amarillo called Canyon. He’s an underrated part of those first two 49er Super Bowls. He died young and is buried in Canyon and Joe Montana came in for his funeral. When I was a kid he did a signing at a local card shop. This was during the junk wax era. He signed the card pictured below. Not worth much but priceless to me.

That’s pretty sweet. Great story! Ayers has the McDonalds and the 1984 Police set but I wish there was a proper card for him.

Dave Tollefson

2x Super Bowl champ with the Giants. His niece has gone to school with my daughter the last 6 years, since kindergarten.

He's got nothing.

I know Nile Kinnick never played pro ball & he has a 1955 Topps All-American card, but to see a pack pulled cut autograph from a Topps or Panini would be a massive hit & chase card for any Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Kevin O'Connell. He was a backup for the Chargers for a hot minute. Went to SDSU, so would be cool to see him on a card with a Chargers jersey on.

One of the upsides of "my team" being the Cowboys is that even a lot of the lower-tier players had cards produced. I've made customs of several players from the 90s Super Bowl rosters. A couple that come to mind offhand that would be cool are linebacker Matt Vanderbeek (big special teams contributor) and tight end Derek Tennell, late-season add that scored a TD in the playoffs. There are probably much better choices for the Cowboys overall but those would be meaningful to me.

Am I right that the Raiders Jack Squirek never had a card?

That’s kind of crazy given his famous SB pick six.

Barry Helton, two-time Super Bowl champ and zero pack issued cards. Deplorable.

Not huge names by any stretch of the world, but for the Ravens...

OL Wally Williams - first franchise tagged player in Ravens history and played in an era (late 90s) where everyone and their mother had cards produced

CB Cary Williams - SB47 starting CB who turned in a few multi-year deals after leaving the team

DL Arthur Jones - signed a big deal upon leaving the Ravens, and also the brother of Bones and Chandler Jones

DB Anthony Levine - largely a ST guy, but worked a 10 year career with the Ravens and was in the prime "here's a random dude in Unparalleled" era

DL Zach Sieler - I'd imagine this one will change with how he's been playing in Miami, so maybe more surprised that it hasn't happened yet

Love this list, exactly who I'm talking about.

Looks like he had a base card in 2022 Prestige?

I can name a bunch, many special team or players from before early 90’s huge sets wouldn’t be on cardboard unless you spotted them on a In Action or Team Card.

Don Dufek “Michigan Wolverines / Seattle Seahawks. 8 year 100 game NFL career.
Toby Williams “Nebraska / New England” 6 year 81 NFL game career, He was centered in a Team Card, his uniform number clearly pictured.
Chris Dishman “Nebraska / Arizona” 8 years 100 NFL games.
Jon Giesler “Michigan / Miami” 10 years 138 NFL games. Was in McDonalds set, Championship team card, as well as oddball team sets.

I’ll add more.

QB - Jameill Showers. Would have been fun to see him take at least a few snaps in 2015.

He would have looked awesome in 1948 Leaf.

It would admittedly be funnier if he was a made-up person.

But he was real:

A little behind the scenes note: It took forever to remove the "White X" on Yonamine's arm in the original using only the janky free clone tools in GIMP.

Some guys on this list have cardboard but no Seahawks despite long careers or Superbowl victories with them.

Mike Holmgren
Pete Carroll (zero cards of any kind throughout his entire HOF coaching career)
Jon Ryan (only has a CFL card that came out last year)
Ricardo Lockette (no cards at all)
Chris Maragos (won a SB with the Seahawks and Eagles never got a card other than the Wisconsin only set. )

The Superbowl winning and going Back to back years Offensive line starters
JR Sweezy (zero cards ever made)
Breno Giacomini (none in a Hawks uniform)
Paul McQuistan (none in a Hawks uniform)
