I always find it tough to grasp the death of any athlete who was younger than me.

God Bless the “greatest of all-time”, Rickey Henderson. Just awful news about the most exciting player I ever saw play.

I think NNOF is iconic, but the Rickey was THE iconic card of my childhood. Sorry 86 Canseco and 84 Mattingly fans.

RIP to the greatest leadoff hitter of all time, and my favorite player when I was a kid.

Here are some signed cards:

Thanks for sharing, this in an incredible statistic. A real testament of his immediate dominance and also his fitness well into his playing twilight.
His ability to create runs via the walk, the hit, the homer and his amazing speed and base running intuition really set the standard. As a lead off guy, we really was “the greatest of all time”.

Now this is a bummer. One of the most exciting players to watch - ever. I feel bad for his friends and family, he was too young.

This is true. The people who actually lived, breathed and collected during the 80s know this to be true. I remember walking into a mall show in the early 80s and a guy had half a binder full of Rickey rookies. 5 dollars a pop which was big money back then. The local LCS sold packs of 80 Topps and always offered top dollar for Henderson RC if you pulled one. It really sucks watching our heroes as kids pass away.

Sad, way too young, I remember one of the four years Rickey played for the Yankees, I want to say 1985?, it seemed like between Henderson, Mattingly and Winfield one of them would score in the first inning every game. I'm not sure Yankee fans appreciated the offensive weapon he was. Since 2020 we have lost a ton of the all time greats. So sad.

I never did get his autograph at the National because I always thought I still had plenty of time the way he looked when he was there. One of the greats and a Yankee to boot. Sad day.

It's ironic that he died only a few months after the death of the Oakland Athletics. A bit similar to how Bill Walton passed around the same time as the death of the Power 5 version of the Pac-12. RIP Mr. Rickey

Does anyone know why MLB seems to be ignoring the news of Rickey's passing? I went on their website, X account and tv network and see no reference to it. That's pretty damn weird.

Sad day for the game -- RIP.

Same with ESPN. I'm starting to wonder if everyone's has been punked.
