Go from 40-to-go to a smaller number (I am completely at the mercy of people listing 20-year-old cards for sale on the internet)

The more of you I see saying the goal is to sell big chunks of your collections, the more I'm seeing a future buyer's market.

I would classify my 1st as more of a combination, street/race car. Used for double duty. Bought another one that will be a dedicated race car.

Start a new player binder set, and finish it before Spring Training (minus new releases).

I will be retiring from collecting. No country for old men in this hobby. Enjoy the ride, my kin!

A couple of observations on this thread. Just about everybody here says "downsize" and "not buying wax." This is like the New Year's resolution of going to the gym and losing weight. For anybody that has this goal, I hope you can stay strong and avoid temptations. It's a genuine wish for you because it can be hard to avoid the FOMO. I know bc I'm guilty myself. If folks can stick to this goal, maybe there will finally be some positive changes by Fanatics and Topps. With that being said, here are my goals:

1) avoid said FOMO and don't buy stupid stuff like Topps chrome unlicensed basketball.
2) Avoid breaks (I got into way too many last two years and got toasted on a LOT with nothing to show for it).
3) Piggybacking on 1, pick only certain products to buy. (I'm a sucker for sapphire even though I've gotten burned on about half of my boxes, so I should just budget for that). I prefer sapphire over chrome in all products at this point bc of limited auto checklists, so for similar price, odds of better autos are better.
4) if I don't get Coby Mayo in a personal box, just buy his singles and stop being stupid and chasing him in breaks that are overpriced and not guaranteed to hit.
5) Don't buy more than 1 box of 25 Series 1. It's always overprinted and price is too high for 1 gold /2025 and 1 paper no-name auto.
6) Figure out what to do with my 2018-24 junk wax era of three row singles in my attic.

Gross sales for me this year are at $4500 so my goal is to at least come close to that number in 2025. Goal two is to sell off some slabs, autographed baseballs, starting lineups, and other bulky stuff to reduce the footprint of my collection. For the most part I stopped busting wax ten years ago so I feel that I am past the addiction and FOMO aspect of the hobby.

Downsize to ~25 cards. Use the proceeds to build the 33 Goudey set(I have 6 cards to start). This is probably a three year project.

PC Goals
1. Finish my Billy O'Dell PSA collection - I only need a few more cards and it's not expensive so I need to get it done.
2. Add some cards to the Nick Ciuffo collection - It's getting harder and harder to find stuff I need since 95%+ is /10 or less.
3. Add some nice Gamecock cards to the collection - Only low numbered cards of players that I really liked.
4. Add a Wayne Gretzky Topps Rookie - Looking at a mid grade PSA graded copy
5. Continue to add to my PSA/DNA cards - Really want to add a 1989 Upper Deck Griffey.

Other
1. Continue selling stuff I don't need
2. Attend more shows
3. Go to the LCS more
4. Add more sealed wax to the collection but limit opening anything

Pare collection down to the top 100 cards that I want to keep in PC, keep another 100 of current players to hold and sell if they increase in value(Witt, etc), and sell the rest. I will pick up singles here and there, maybe a little wax, but I'd rather put my money in other avenues at this time like stocks(Which I am becoming more interested in than cards). I'll maybe pick it back up, if and when the Junk Wax Era 2 ends.

Cut way down on wax purchases, focus on my Salvador Perez true gold collection, dip my toe further into vintage.

I have a truly simple goal this year and that's to get a few cards slabbed which sounds silly but I can't/won't mail them off. It has to be done in person bc the cards are so rare.

So I'll have to wait til the National comes around in July.

No real goals other than adding some big Canseco cards, as per usual

I’ve got a few boxes of cards to offload and a few small sets I’m finishing up, but no major goals outside of sticking to my rule for 2025 of only buying 1-3 cards per week. I’ve dropped wax almost completely in the last few years and now am focusing on just finding one really nice card (or more accurately on a teacher’s budget one card I’ll be very happy owning) each week. I’m not counting trades against my weekly total to encourage myself to trade more.

3) Complete my 2002 Topps Heritage chrome set (need 21 cards)
4) Add a 2001 Topps Chrome Retrofractor Ichiro
5) Attend the National and make some trades
6) Trade and consolidate some of my 90s stuff
7) Finish my 2003 - 2012 Topps Heritage refractor run (need 3 cards!)
Bonus goal: Add a 2001 SP Authentic Chirography Ichiro
#7 is done! Picked up the last card about 20 minutes ago.

Thanks! I was at the mercy of the eBay gods, as many of us are.

It does seem quick, but really I've been plowing through that set run since 2010. Doesn't feel quick

My goal is to spend net-zero on the hobby in 2025 then go back to my typical spend in 2026 most of which I'll spend at the National.

I figure this will motivate me to sell off the rest of my trade-bait. I sold a bunch this year but would really just like to get rid of the rest of it this year and move that money into cards for the PC.

Complete the paper sets from 2024 that I ripped a bunch of:
Topps Series 1, Series 2, Update, and Chrome
(Chrome Update if I can find a way to do it without paying the Debut Patch Tax)

Get any Home Field Advantage cards that come out for the DBacks this year.
I believe I have all four of the DBacks HFA/LHFA thus far:
Thomas/Carroll/Lawler/Johnson

Pick up all DBacks base auto cards from 2025 Stadium Club.
Did this for 2024. Fingers crossed for on-card base again!

Spend time digging through the dollar boxes at the many great LCSs in the area.
I still get a thrill from digging out cards from the '80s/'90s that I missed as a kid
and adding to my childhood binders!

Get set up with multiple binders for my "modern" PC.
I imagine this would be base and "cheap" inserts/parallels of modern cards I collect:
(vets, current players, Phx teams, etc)
I need to figure out how to do this without damaging things.
Look into top loader binders for a certain threshold of cards, perhaps?

Topload binders are great - many to choose from on Amazon.

This is a nice resource as well: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showth...ghlight=Binder
