You take Stinky McFartson's opinions on films seriously?

One of them you couldn't pay me to watch, the other I watched last night and thought it was great. Eggers doesn't really miss.

I agree about Eggers, but "Demeter" is a pretty good movie, too.

Gonna watch 1974's 'Black Christmas' since I just heard Olivia Hussey died. She was such an underrated actress.

Nosferatu has at least a couple of contenders for the Razzies. That wouldn’t be so bad except the movie just plain isn’t scary. Well, except for that mustache.

Would you put it in the class of a pretentious horror movie, that claims to be a horror movie, but really isn't a horror movie?

More like vampire fan fiction. Reminiscent of Twilight yet somehow less compelling.

Are you not familiar with the story of Dracula??? I've never seen Twilight, maybe it is also a straight retelling of Dracula, but I highly doubt it. I get that you didn't like it, but I find your description hilarious.

It's not pretentious, but it's also not scary, if you need your horror movies to be scary then you may not enjoy it. Probably should be noted I'm not the best judge of "scary" as I don't find fictional situations scary. Jesus Camp is the scariest film I've seen.

This vampire porn has nothing on either the Stoker novel or the 1922 movie. It is however full of tiresome psychological claptrap dressed up with creepily long phallic fingers to create the semblance of a remake.

I stated earlier those interested in Nosferatu should watch 'Shadow Of The Vampire', you'll love it I guarantee!

Eggers' work is like eerie photographs in motion, David Lynch-y stuff, which I dig.
I'll still check it out, but it's certainly coming up short with a lot of fans who've seen it.

That's good news to me.
His previous movie, "The Northman", was terrific.
Next up for him might be Henson's "Labyrinth".

I think it's Witch>Lighthouse>Nosferatu>Northman for me, it's funny I saw a thread on reddit the other day where someone asked people to rank their Eggers and there were tons of different variations from people.

Would he be making Labyrinth with puppets?? I don't think I could get into that, but I'd give it a watch due to his track record.

I highly doubt Eggers would go for it, but I'd like to see Jennifer Connelly back as Sarah who, for whatever reason, later returned to the Labyrinth after the events of the original movie only to be fully corrupted by it. She'd now occupy the position Bowie did as Jareth, but as the Goblin Queen, and maybe he'd be some sort of spirit guiding her, played by someone Bowie-esque. Her little brother Toby, now fully grown, goes into the Labyrinth to save her from it and ghost Jareth, thus returning the favor.

If Eggers does remake Labyrinth it could be the end of him. His plodding self-seriousness combined with a movie that famously bombed at the theater seems like a perfect recipe for disaster.

On a side note, you know Hollywood is completely bankrupt of ideas when someone thinks it’s a great idea to redo a movie where the central relationship involves a teenage girl and a middle-aged rocker.

It's on MUBI, one of the lesser known platforms.
I think they actually produced the movie, which is why its exclusive there for now. They're trying to drum up subscribers with it.
It should also be available on demand at Amazon Prime for the standard $5.99 rental.

Watched Nosferatu on Saturday.

The cinema experience really makes a difference. I would put my money on it getting an Oscar for sound effects and/or best adapted screenplay. Other than that, I got the feeling that it was a bit too much. The acting, Orlok, the drama, the sexual tension. Also, not sure about the count's accent, seemed a bit stretched to me. Kudos for using real Romanian actors for the Transylvania scenes (being a Romanian, I can appreciate the authenticity more).

Long story short, had potential to be a 10, gets a mild 8. Overall good stuff.

Reminds me of all those posters touting how many Oscars or nominations some schlock movie got. When you look closer it always says “Best Sound”.
