The Ravens did right by him in his development. He always had the arm talent but the mechanics were a mess. They sent him to a mechanics specialist for his first 3 years and the gains were so apparent even after year 1. You could continually see it get better. Even in his worst seasons, you could still see the pieces coming together.

I will say that I was always a believer in Lamar, even before my Ravens drafted him. I’d be lying if I said I thought he’d get quite to this level. I’m glad I get to watch him on my team week after week.

I feel the same way. I am so glad all other teams passed up on him.

I remember there was talk of the Patriots going after him in the 2018 draft to be TB12s successor.

For a while, I was glad they didn't as I thought he was a poor passing, running QB.

I was very wrong.

I still stand by this. The Ravens have done an AMAZING job drafting and picking up high value free agents. Lamar has adapted his game as well, much better than I would ever assumed as it had not happened before. I believe the couple seasons of injuries helped him realize what he needed to do.
His decision making is still VERY slow. Watching him in person last season, his WR were open for seconds before Lamar made a decision to throw the ball.
As much as Ravens fans vilify Harbaugh, he has done an insane job creating an offense and plays to set up Jackson for success.
By far the best QB and coach combo Derrick Henry has ever played with. You can see why both players are having an insane year stat wise.
Henry maybe the one factor that can help a "stay in the pocket" playoff Lamar win the big game. Because he sure could not do that last season.

Before I stated there is no way Ravens can beat the Chiefs in a title game.

I am changing my stance. This is a different Lamar. Their defense has been solid lately.

He absolutely will not understand the reference. Probably should misspell it out for him.

Hats off to Harbaugh.

Go and watch film of Lamar his rookie season. The development and improvement has been absolutely astounding.

You still stand by this, as you acknowledge you once said this? Or you stand by this, because you still believe what you said in your original post?

The guy will soon be a 3x MVP and if he wins next weekend will go to back-to-back AFCC games, not to mention all of the accumulated stats and highlights. Hey, I'm a big Vick guy. In the early 2000's, he was significant to the culture, but to say LJack is a "poor man's Vick," then to say you stand by your original comment is crazy-talk.

Agreed on the Vick aspect. For a short period, the Michael Vick experience was amazing to watch (can watch the walk off 46 yard TD vs MIN on repeat), and unprecedented. Vick was stripped of football in his prime, so we’ll never know his true peak, such as developing his passing skills like Lamar has done; but we have Vick’s admission that he mainly relied on his talent and was not taking preparation seriously.

In short: It’s okay to appreciate what Vick did while also admitting Lamar has surpassed him on the dual-threat QB ladder.

Circumstances. Vick never had a team with a champions mentality like the Ravens. Who knows what Vick would have turned into if he had an organization like the Ravens who instead of saying "You're our hope for a Super Bowl" instead says "You're great, now this is what you need to do to win a Super Bowl"
I think the coaching of L Jack is 60% of his success. His leaps have been insane. That does not just happen because of coaching and does not just happen because of a player. But without the right coaching, he falters. That goes to not only off the field and his development, but the play calling, games plans, and teammates they surround him with.
I still stand by the idea that Vick was a better QB talent than L Jack was, and his 2010 Philly year, after several years off of a football field at age 30, prove that. Athletes who are commentators often say "the right thing" so Vick making that proclamation doesnt surprise me, nor sway my opinion of what I see on the field.
Derrick Henry is also a huge portion to add into the equation of this football season. As Lamar has had the best year of his career, his peak is being timed with the greatest RB of this generation joining the team.
Look at Jalen Hurts adding Barkley. All his metrics are up. TD%, INT%, QBR, QB rating. All while throwing 5-8 less passes a game. A great back makes it a lot easier on a QB.
I still think it will be difficult for Lamar Jackson to win a Super Bowl on his own, which I am constantly reminded on as the reason a QB is valuable or a great investment, which is what this thread was about to begin with. And for a QB to have a top 3 defense for 5 of his 7 seasons, top 10 for 6 out of 7, he should be looking at a Super Bowl appearance by now. Lamar will have a great shot this season, but it will be interesting to watch the Chiefs defense and how they handle him should they meet.

If it makes you feel better, my dad gave all his Lamar Jacksons to his raven buddy in 2018. Including a couple autos.

We're all in the same boat. Trust me, we would have sold the Rosens if anyone would have bought them...
