Race to lowest presale price per box is at $235 on eBay.

I think many people are underestimating his market and how easy it is to move anything with his name on it, especially licensed from Topps.

Also I barely buy wax anymore so when I see anything Shohei for MSRP I figure thats where my wax budget goes to now. If I'm going to buy lottery tickets might as well enter the Shohei Ohtani lottery

Really thought these were gonna be over $300 each just cause Fanatics could...
Best of luck on your rip!

I was on the fence and it ended up selling out before I made a decision. I mainly hesitated because of the hit rate for autos and how Ohtani's 3x MVP might be irrelevant in the future (when/if he wins more).

With that said, those who secured boxes should do good (or at least not lose money) since it's OOS now.

I only cared for 2 of the subjects (Bonds and Ohtani).

Eastbayallday - i totally get you on other points but i'm wondering why this is a question unless you are implying you would be holding sealed boxes long term?

If so then yes I see your point there but even then I doubt it would do much to tamper a higher/rising secondary

Hypothetically, let's say Ohtani wins a 4th MVP.

To me, it'd be weird to see a 3xMVP stamp on his card when all other players in the checklist will have their final MVP counts on their cards. Sure, Ohtani would still have 3 MVPs but it'd still irk me.

I would've ripped a couple and flipped/held the remaining (majority).

If he wins another MVP, they'll make another set with just him and Bonds so there will be some continuity to it at least

Bought 2 boxes to hold sealed.

And where do I see these odds and checklist where we are calculating the print runs? Can't find it.

Kind of like his Topps now 40/40 cards.

It's in the listing of the product on the right side under specifications.

Checklist link is there too.

This is assuming they did a better QC job than they did with the 50/50 and there’s actually 1 parallel per box. Right now, that’s not a safe assumption after what how many boxes had 0 hits in the 50/50 when they advertised it that way. It’s why I tell my kid, “video” anything with an advertised hit.

Haha you’re probably right about that.

Exactly! I haven’t tracked how such cards have “performed” since the 50/50 and I’m not foolishly arguing that Ohtani’s 3xMVP cards (with or without an auto) would suddenly be worthless (should he win at least one more MVP) but I’d want the “final” one as a collector or flipper. Would’ve preferred them to just omit the “3xMVP”/“7xMVP”/etc details

If you missed out I would not worry. There will be enough Ohtani autos for everyone by the time he retires. Then they will make him sign more...

That’s true. Only caveat is that when a guy has bankrolled $900m in a career he’s likely to stop signing or charge an asinine amount to do signings. Guys from the 90s made money, but not like they do now. It’s very possible today’s athletes find it not worth their while.

But how many more until he signs in a 4th iteration (or are we already on #4)?

Ichiro path - All of his stuff went from being pricey to super cheap within a few years of retirement. Just won't put down the pen.

Exception is of course 2001-02.

Don't you see, this is the last time they're going to have dual auto cards with Othani......until the next release.

27 first place votes compared to 2. Doesn't really sound like it was close. In Judges defense he did lead the league in 5 categories, or is it 4 categories? Do we count striking out the most in MLB in this drill?

Ohtani just signed a new, exclusive deal with Fanatics last year. I’d like to imagine he made Rubin give him whatever he wanted.

Some of these guys don’t need the money and still sign every year. Jeter is worth 9 figures. Griffey probably isn’t hurting for cash. Some of these guys probably just like doing it.
