I found this dime as I was getting a penny out of the shop register... It has the regular silver front, but a copper back. Is this a common error?

It looks like it's missing the clad layer on the reverse. Dimes are made of copper, and clad with nickel. If it's a mint error, it's not very common. Recent sales on eBay would suggest $100-200 if certified by a coin grader. Nice find!

Yes, it is definitely missing the reverse clad layer, and you do not need to get it certified. This error isn't common but there are multiple examples, and it is even better that the entire clad layer is missing. It will sell for the same amount raw as it will being graded honestly just to save you some money on grading fees. Nice find for sure.

I pulled it out of a jumbled pile of pennies so I would hate to see how it grades!
Thanks for the info! Michael
