But OP says one at bat, not plate appearance. So if Soto walks do I get to pick another player until someone has an official at bat? That could change the strategy depending on how many runs I am down.

And is it only one at bat? Like, my pick hits a single, but we're down 3 runs and only a grand slam will win if I only get one at bat? Totally different strategy- you are not taking Ichiro or Gwynn in that situation.
