Jim Rice would've been much preferred over Ben Rice, though the artwork is fantastic, as usual. I especially like that there are no maker marks on the hat (New Era) or jersey (Nike).

I can't imagine getting a Ben Rice card (-0.4 WAR in 2024) if he wasn't on the Yankees.

I would love to see Seto rejoin the set. Having her join Jared and Angel would be fantastic, especially if Topps took the 3-card approach of Active/Rookie/Retired each week. Each of the three artists could rotate through the cycle, so they all get a chance to work with different subjects.

Now that 2025 Topps has been released it is time to see some of the top 10 rookies in the set. Ben Rice is not among them.

I did not have Ben Rice on my bingo card for the first 2025 rookie of the Living Set. I believe last year it was Evan Carter - hot off a huge postseason outing and the year before Michael Harris - the reigning ROY. Wandermania kicked off 2022 and I know Yordan was early in 2020 (don't remember who was first in 2021). This definitely is a pivot from the status quo.

I wonder if since it leaked they're going hold for a while to try and bring back a bit of the surprise factor when it finally drops. I know I love the anticipation on Wednesdays of refreshing the website waiting to see who the players are that week.

Okay well, I thought this kinda logic would be self evident but here we go: people buy more when the player is playing. When Roki Sasaki is on TV throwing pitches at the Tokyo Series, that's the time to release the Roki Sasaki card. Not in January the first available week you can slap an RC on his card. Same goes for any other rookie or even active player.

People search online Dylan Crews' name. Google ads notices this. Topps ads get applied to people's FB and search results, they are more likely to buy the card. Why'd they wait until May to put Ohtani in a Dodger's uniform?

I don't even know how this is a discussion but I am open to hearing whatever view you have that causes you to completely disagree.

I think you are really over-analyzing this. The hype of the top rookies is far greater now than it will be when they start playing. A few will get off to hot starts but many won't and their value to collectors will go down. What you propose is like trying to time the stock market.

The only timing they need to hit is while the season is on. That's not trying to time the stock market, that's selling fruit in season.

"A few will get off to hot starts"? How is this any different from spring training?

Topps knows that print runs are higher mid season than the first week of spring training -- rookie or not. And frankly I think it's crucial to the existence of this set.

Really? Then why did Topps release Elly de la Cruz, the #1 RC of 2024, on February 28? They also released Evan Carter and Jordan Westburg earlier in February. They released Michael Harris in February 0f 2023, Wander Franco in February of 2022, Yordan Alvarez in February of 2020, and Kyle Tucker in February of 2019. In fact, 2025 appears to be the first year that a top RC has not been released in February. I doubt that Topps suddenly adopted your strategy.

Anyone else no longer getting the Artspan order confirmation emails? I find they are hit or miss. They were great for keeping track of orders.
