As someone who received the box multiple times (and hopefully made it better each time), I'd like to thank you for starting this fantastic thread and keeping it going for years. Long live the box o' stuff!

Thanks, mmbtvs. The box is an awesome project and I know I'm not alone in appreciating its existence. I'll do my best to keep it on track.

gmarutiak, THANK YOU for being someone who received the box multiple times and sent it back out better than before. You helped get it this far!

We are all the box and the box is all of us.

For anyone who's interested in participating, feel free to post and toss your name into the hat.

Remember that:
  • The intention is to always keep the box full of fun stuff for the next person (and the next person and the next person) while also selecting things that catch your eye and interest. Take a sandwich, leave a sandwich!
  • We want the box generally free of undesired base and clutter cards but brimming with neat and interesting cards. The goal is to share the fun of card collecting and not just sort through what no one else wants.
  • It's paramount that you post pictures of what you selected and are able to keep the box moving! We all want to share in the process and it's fun to see someone find joy from something you included previously.

Oldheads and long-timers, chime in with any additional words of wisdom or guidance you'd like to share.

Meet the new box, same as the old box. Vroom vroooom!~

I got my box yesterday. Was able to give it an initial pass. I’m probably going to tidy it up a bit as there seems to be a lot of stuff everywhere. There’s six or seven team bags just shoved full of cards that are loose in the box, plus three smaller cardboard boxes that have lots of base. I’m mostly a baseball guy but know a little about basketball and football, and the latter two appear to be in the roughest shape

Do you want me to forward the other box to you as well? Perhaps it’s a good time to marry them back together?

Good thought, Dusty. PM sent. I'll double down here and say don't forget to post pictures of what caught your eye from the box, please!

MasonAsher! You're the queue once I get this moving. Thanks for chirping up and chiming in.

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a Box o Stuff.

I ordered a light box to take better pics. This was the excuse I needed! I’ll post and send you the box this weekend

Love it! Thanks for posting and sharing, DustyDBacks! I love the Lourdes pull -- I PC him. He's a colorful guy. Also love the non-sports pulls and the Slash card. Fun stuff. (And the Maddux card!) Great seeing box pics. Thank you!

I've got tracking confirmation from DustyDBacks and WizardofOz1982. xDomePatrolx also generously and thoughtfully has a box of contributions on the way so we're entering the Age of Boxquarious and the signs are good.

Once everything is here I'll decompress, recompress, post and keep it moving.

MasonAsher, I've got you on the board. The thread is alive and active so keep stopping in to say hey and talk box shop (if you're into that sort of thing).

I'd like to put my name back on the list. It's been a while since I've gone through it and I've accumulated a bunch of good additions since I last had it. Thanks in advance!

BOTH boxes arrived to me yesterday. Thank you to Wiz and Dusty for doing such great pack-n-send jobs. I started going through the first box last night and had a great time. My goal is to enjoy, sort, consolidate, stuff, and ship by the first part of next week.

I slipped one card in there with our 90s nba finals convo in mind. If it doesn’t spark joy feel free to pass it along!

Thanks for keeping this going. I had a ton of fun digging through when I had it

Ugh I hate when we hit page 3. But it's on me -- everything's with me. So the update is that everything is updating. Thanks for your patience and continued interest in the Box!

Back to page 1.

Just curious...are you planning on combining the two boxes back into one, or is it too early for you to have made that decision? Regardless, thank you for your work on this!

Hey hey! Yes I'm trying to make one large (decently manageable) box. It seems like the easier way to form a queueueueueue.

I'm still working on repacking the box but I'll share what I chose for myself and close friends.

There's a decent amount of football in the box and these were three of the first cards I chose.
Neat to see the Singletary Cosmic design, the Sweetness is a great card, and the Fridge is making it look so casual.

I also added these two. I was recently rewatching the 2006 Bears season and as Lovie reminded us all constantly, they got off the bus running.
The Salaam is a Sports Flix and I love those.

Moving swiftly into baseball (so as to maintain the board's focus):
My mom and Jim Thome (The Pride of Peoria) have the same birthday so I like to gather up cards of his for her like cardboard-loving crow.
I also found two cards for me: Not a bunny hop but Sammy looking focused in the box, and the abomination that is Southpaw -- because for 50 seconds I thought there monsters on the world.

At my friend's baby shower last year, I brought her husband some Mo Vaughn cards b/c they're Red Sox fans and Mo is a cool looking dude on cards -- a lot of mean mugs and power swings.
It turned out that Mo was one of his favorite players growing up and it was a serendipitously great gift.
So just like the cousin who makes the mistake of saying they like turtles only to get novelty turtle items at every birthday I found four more Mo Vaughn cards for him (looking like Spice Adams chugging around the bags).

Let's switch gears and look at some of the novelty and oddball stuff.
I love tobacco cards. I just think they're neat. This pic isn't precisely emblematic -- I need to select my specific cards for sequence and keep the duplicates for sharing -- but I wanted to show the pages.
And then two very cool Ogden's 'Guinea Gold' cigarette cards of actresses. Really cool and cards I hadn't seen before.

Rounding out the oddball stuff are these three really cool Lost cards (the lenticular of the plane exploding? Incredible) and an absolutely wild Breaking Bad card of Hank.

I'll close out my selections with basketball. I unearthed this Thunder Dan auto that brings a smile to my face. Majerle was a real competitor and I love me some 90s basketball. Dusty, if you slipped this is -- thank you

And finally this sharp looking CeeJaaay...WAT-_son_ card. Even though Panini insists it's a Nets card, I can't help but say his name like Stacey King used to when he was on the Bulls and it startles my rabbits every time. I can't find it on the internet to link to so if you know, you can probably hear it in your head.

I'm still engineering everything back into the box and I've reached out to MasonAsher via PMs.

While the pictures were good, the subtle I Think You Should Leave reference was excellent!

Yep I was hoping you’d pop on that one after our 93 finals chat. Glad you like it!

Sad news, Oliver Miller passed yesterday. At least we got some good words in on his behalf. Rest in peace, Big O <3
