In the near/distant future when the links in this post stop linking, what we have here is a Steve McNair 1999 Upper Deck UD Exclusives /100 with gold foil, a 1/1 with gold foil, and a 1/1 with silver foil. Perhaps each of the 1/1s was originally stamped 1/1. Perhaps one or both of them was originally stamped out of 100 and subsequently turned into a 1/1 by somebody wiping part of the serial number off (e.g., 091/100) - it's dot matrix printing on a foil background, so that's probably doable. I do not know. I don't know whether any of the grading services knows. marinocollector probably knows.

Is there a Steve McNair silver out there that is numbered /100. I do not know that either. More questions than answers about this set, certainly.

Back in 1999, I pulled a Gold #/100 (Rae Carruth of all players ) in a pack.
When I first saw Gold I thought I had a 1/1. What a disappointment.
So I know there was printing errors.
I've not seen a Silver 1/1 before, but it could be legit.

How do these types of card do at card shows? I've stock piled football #'d cards in the late 90's through the 2000's and was thinking about setting up at a show. Is there enough interest or is this too much of a niche to make it worth my time?

I just opened a 2002 Fleer Authentix Dolphins Home Town Box and got the extended checklist (SUPER HTF) cards for:

Chris Chambers #203
Jason Taylor #207
Sam Madison #209
Dedric Ward #213

Some of these are so rare I'm not sure there are even pictures of them in the wild.

The GU suggest that theres 200-500 of each made. Just one of those sets that no one lists. Or a Miami fan more likely will keep bc they are the ones busting it.
I do find it weird these barely get list when its one GU and 4 extended per box and the 4 GU can almost always be found (except you Brian Dawkins)

What’s odd is the game-used is easy to find (Mine had Marino, Jason Taylor) but the extended checklist cards for all teams are impossible to find. Makes me if the GU are also in regular boxes as well. Mine also yielded Tory Holt and two Bengals GU.

The extended checklist cards are nowhere to be found.

Are you thinking there are 200 sets of extended checklist cards? I would find that extremely hard to believe, for any team of the 5-6 hometown teams, based strictly on how few are findable.

Do you have the extended checklist cards as a Dolphins collector?

The Hometown Heroes GU team sets are a part of the extended checklist sets too.

Shoot me pics of the backs of your two GU. I do not recall there being two per box. You might have a parallel!

Each Hometown Heroes team had the following exclusives:
4 Hometown Hero GU
1 Hometown Hero Dual GU (100 or less made)
15 special base cards.

I have the entire Fins GU set and some of the parallels. I only have 6 of the Fins extended checklist. Its a set I started in 2020 when bored.

Wow. That’s great.

It’s 1 GU per hometown pack but mine came with 2? I’ll check the backs.

Interesting...
How I figured... it takes 4 packs to make an extended set and a GU set with perfect collation. The duals have a print run of 156 and seem much more limited than the base. The base GU have 56 parallels and seem to be 5-6x harder to find.

So I am assuming 300 of the base GU total per card, which would make the duals 1:9 packs. Which even that seems low, but its all guess work.

300 total GU would mean 300 total extended sets.

These fall into the regional / team collector category for me. Which is a nice element of scarcity. The majority of people buying these would collect the team and would be less likely to let them go. So they may sit in boxes forever forgetten, not knowing people have $100+ bounties on random players.

You were right - the Jason Taylor GU was a "Ft. Lauderdale" with a reported print run of, I believe, 50?

I'm not a Dolphins guy, though I like Marino a lot. But I loved pulling all those cards (not about $$$, just the fun of scarcity and great players). I have to say opening that box underscored everything that is wrong with modern football.

It was just a fun rip.

Here's another 1/1 McNair that I was lucky enough to add to my collection a few months ago:

And here is a copy of the /25 "bronze" version, which is not much different from the "gold" 1/1 version:

I spy a slightly different color of foil and that's about it, which is pretty typical for 90s Upper Deck 1/1s. This one is a parallel of an insert from the 1998 Upper Deck set, with a little die-cut action on the top and bottom edges, where there is white in the above photos.

So how have rare 90s football cards been treating you all lately?

It looks like I'm the last 90s football collector left standing (or at least the last one to have held onto the password for his Blowout account), so I'll do my part.

Here's a 90s 1/1. From 1998 - the best year for football cards, as has been proven by top cardboard scientists.

This scan absolutely sucks, but the foil is gold. You can can check my instagram post to see it better, though I'm pretty terrible at that social media platform as well.

Here's the bronze /100 parallel of the same card:

And, for the sake of completeness, here's the base card:

1996 Pacific’s flagship set had blue, red and silver parallels. I’ve been working on the Cowboys for years. For the blue I’ve just needed the Mark Tuinei. One finally popped up on Beckett marketplace. Finally finished. I need one red and two more silver.

One of my favorites, RED, BLUE, SILVER then PLATINUM BLUE in Pacific parallels. Did you ever attempt to do the oversized parallels ? They are so tough because nobody brings them to shows or sells do to being tougher to ship. I attempt to pickup the parallels but have only found any roughly 2 years ago.

Many people don’t appreciate the oversized cards like this Rice. My all time bucket list card took me over a decade - 1992 Gameday PROMO Desmond Howard Colts RC. It might be the last card I ever let go. By far not the most valuable but the most effort in hunting down.

Thanks for passing that along. I was in touch with the owner after he acquired it (I was the #2 bidder) and again after he recently listed it. At that price, he is still the owner.
