I have a little question maybe someone can help with. I recently bought a Bo Nix Inception patch auto on eBay. It went off to authentication and came back as authentic. They did send me an "issue notice" though mentioning bent or blunted corners and attached pictures of the back of the card. I have the option to return and get a refund. All that said, this Inception release seems to be riddled with bad corners and even though the listing pictures were with a soft sleeve on, the corners don't look worse than I anticipated.
I guess my question is does the eBay authenticators typically pick up stuff like this. All I have is the authentication teams pics and like I said, it looks like I kind of expected. However, given the "bent or blunted" description, I don't know if there is damage I can't see in the picture. This isn't a flip or anything, it's a bookend numbered card that I was planning on putting in my PC and the blunted corners are on the back which doesn't really bother me. Based on the Inception cards I have looked at on eBay I imagine most Inception cards going through eBay authentication are popping up with this issue. Thanks for any input! |

Also, recently, I mailed out a graded card and the slab cracked in shipping. When the authenticator inspected it, he saw that the crack in the slab did not match my description or photos, and therefore, did not authenticate it, and shipped it back to me and seller was refunded |

What's the question again? eBay authentication is there to let you know if there are issues with the card that you might not have known about, and that the card is authentic and what you paid for. If you're ok with the condition item they mention, and you paid what you would expect for a card with that issue, then you have no problems with the transaction, right?

Sorry I know I was a little vague. My main question was if anyone had any experience with eBay authentication claiming the card they either bought or sold had "bent or blunted" corners. I knew when I bought it the corners were not sharp and to me blunted is different than bent. Semantics probably but I only have the pics from aunthenication and the description "bent or blunted". I can't see any "bends" in pics but that doesn't mean they are not there. I didn't know how common this was and the reason I posted it in the football forum was because it seems the Inception cards in general don't have the best corners. Just wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue with either buying or selling these cards.
It's the first time I've been seen it but I haven't bought a lot of cards that go to authentication. Just gave me a little pause. If this is something that rarely happens then I feel like it could be worse than it appears in the pictures. Not looking for anyone to tell me what to do one way or another, just looking if anyone has any first hand experience on these matters. If someone really experienced tells me it's got to be pretty bad for eBay to call it out, then I may reevaluate. I have 6 days to decide, but right now I'm planning on keeping the card. Thanks again. Also, the card was listed at near mint or better, maybe it should have been listed as Excellent, that doesn't concern me as I used the pics to see for myself. |

I have been through this multiple times.
When that happens, you get the pics from eBay auth dept. If you want to keep the item, you'd msg the seller and show them the pics and get a partial refund for the defect/issue not visible in pics (ebay sends you pics of defect). That is all the eBay auth is telling you: there's a defect and/or the card description of condition didn't match actual condition they are seeing. It's up to you what you do with that info eBay provides to you. You have 3 options: accept it, refuse it based on new defect info, or negotiate with seller. (but you're an idiot if you accept defect item without some partial refund... any seller will give at least some partial refund, because they will eat double ship fees otherwise). The only time you might ever accept defect without refund is if card went up DRASTICALLY in value since sale a week or two earlier (which happens 0.00X%, obviously). ...for your Nix Topps 2024 card, given it's unlicensed nonsense non-game used non-player worn Topps no logos crap, I would cancel your purchase. This is our out, so take it. That is unless you like unlicensed nonsense non-game used non-player worn Topps no logos crap. Jmo

Actually topps stuff IS player worn. And I'm going to assume he likes it as he purchased it. Why are you such a black cloud? All you had to do was answer his question. You have a terrible habit of adding your opinion no one asked for and even fewer want. |

He's a hater. I am thinking he wishes he could pick up some of this stuff but can't, for whatever reason, so he hates on it. He loves Rattler though so he must have invested in him. Now Tyler Shough is the starter bummer

AG told me about a bend a few months ago with a purchase for my PC. I asked for pics and it didn't look terrible. I got the card and it was in ever better condition than they made it sound.

Thanks everyone, even Slyguy for his first two paragraphs. There was some communication between the seller and I and a partial refund was issued and I accepted the card. I won't go into specifics but the refund was offered unsolicited and I think was very fair. I like the card and I know it's not perfect but it's not getting graded and will look just fine in a one touch. If Nix becomes the next John Elway, great! If he bust out I have a card to remind me of what could have been, lol.

Realize that next time. Auth Guarantee is a great service, though. Many seller take crummy pics and call their cards mint when they are not that. Quote:
Glad you got some $ back... sellers that take poor pics or list condition better than it is deserve to pay some back. The AG is a great service (also for expensive shoes and some other things besides just cards). Fyi, you should try for more back next time... not just take first offering. Sellers who do that stuff eat fairly big fees and time waste if you reject the card, and they know this.

If AG catches a discrepancy with pics and listed condition, it's dumb not to take some money back... or cancel sale altogether (depending on other options and your sentiment on the card after new info).

Would have bought the card in poor condition as it doesn’t pop up ever and was for the PC. Carry on.

A seller can set an item with a $0.99 auction or $250 BIN and if it sells for $0.99, it goes thru Auth.
