Yeah, he's bad at baseball.
Problem is every time I see him on tv its 98 mph sinkers and filthy 92mph changeups.
Like some hot chick at the bar you ask out only to find out she's a psycho pillhead mooch glommer with a massively padded bra later on.

So, the Sandy Man… He doesn’t appear to be back up to speed yet. He might need a phantom injury to take a 15-day break (or longer) and reset.

He’s like that 6-foot-4 NFL receiver who runs a 4.4 40, but can’t run routes or catch passes that hit him in the chest.

Yup. I was thinking the same thing. He’s not fully back yet.

Chase Petty getting called up! I don't know if he's ready, but I'm here for it!

Reds fans- What’s the assessment of Lodolo? Velocity down. Walks down. Strikeouts down. ERA down. He’s like a different pitcher this year.

Is he figuring out how to be a pitcher and not a thrower? Too small of a sample size to know?

Velocity was back up last start. He was hitting 95-96 consistently. I think he was building back up still his first few starts. With the increased velocity came more strikeouts. 9 Ks in 7 innings.

Eury Perez made his 2nd rebab start, six batters. I’m optimistic he’ll be pitching at the MLB level right after the AS break and not sometime in August.

Very glad to see Ben Brown have a really solid outing against the Brewers last night after his rough last couple of starts. I really like that kid.

Kyle Stowers and the lowly Miami Marlins just blew up a 101mph fastball from the “best pitcher” in baseball Mason Miller with a game winning Grand Slam. Guess there wasn’t quite enough velo on it.

On April 20, 1993, Alex Arias of the Marlins hit a homerun off of Greg Maddux. Now, who do you think is a better hitter; Kyle Stowers or Alex Arias?

Actually, it's "Greatest Pitcher of All-Time" per previous posts. This is an example of another intangible that some fail to factor in the profile of what makes an athlete great, the ability to perform under pressure. Definitely a good lesson for the young pitcher. Already a failed starter, dont want to end up being a failed closer.

Alex Arias hit a home run off of Maddux because Maddux let him hit a home run. Maddux dictated the outcome of every at bat.

And if you want to judge based off slash lines, Arias is a better hitter, with the edge in BA, OBP, and OPS. But they are both pretty terrible players, with Stowers basically being worse than replacement level for his career and Arias being replacement level.

That’s really not an apples-to-apples comparison. Arias was never good. Stowers is in the midst of a breakout, hitting better to start 2025 than Arias ever did.

Yeah, I really don't care. Rwperu's question was stupid and we aren't starting this dumb debate over which era has better players. Because, you use your words, it's not an apples to apples comparison.

Good question, not sure. I always preferred the “Secret Weapon,” Rick Renteria.

You're really not sure who is the better hitter? That's comical.

Yes Stowers this year is performing better than some other rando. Again, comparing different eras is apples to oranges.

Your question was stupid and you were just trying to start up a stupid debate again.

Even without accounting for the difference in eras Stowers has been a better hitter over his career (OPS+ 90-81). Granted he hasn't gone through his decline phase yet, but it's also possible he hasn't quite peaked.

Then when you factor in the difference in eras you're talking another 50-60 points of OPS+. It's the difference between Aaron Judge and Daulton Varsho or Shohei Ohtani and Kevin Newman.

What is your point? I know you didn't just compare Stowers to Judge and Ohtani. You're talking about a player in this era, there's literally no reason to use other players, especially not the top players.

I have a feeling I know why you wanted to use the top guys. Because what I said was right. I said Stowers has been below average. He's basically played one full season. His 90 OPS+ is below average. His career bWAR is negative. His offensive fWAR is negative. And his wRC+ is below average

So yeah, the way you guys want to talk about how velocity is so unhittable, a guy like Stowers has no business even catching up to 102, let alone hitting it out of the park.

Once again I think you miss the point. Kyle Stowers is among the most skilled hitters in the game's history. He only sucks because he's facing the most skilled pitchers in the game's history. Stowers is to Arias as those superstars are to those nags.
