$2 million of sports cards lost last year and never found, and it feels like everybody has forgotten about it
So I was listening to somebody earlier and he said there’s some “ theory” he won’t discuss, but people with credibility think they know what happened to the cards Does anybody know what he’s talking about? Please don’t just say inside job without some sort of evidence. I understand a lot of people think it was an inside job and I get it but have some proof. I’m curious if anyone knows of this “theory” backed by evidence. Not just some hypothetical. |

Why put qualifiers on it? If someone has heard something let’s hear it. It can all be pieced together at the end. I know nothing about it but interested for sure

What would be the point of it being an inside job ? And by inside job I assume they are saying it was done for insurance purposes which makes no sense because ok you get insurance payout but now you have cards that have been decertified and you can't move within the lower 48.
Personally for me an international ring that had the cards out of the states within 24 hrs and overseas within 48 hrs is the most logical scenario. Crack and resub since from what I remember most were vintage and not modern serial #'d. Last edited by Cracktoast; 05-04-2025 at 10:40 PM. |

Because these threads have started before, and you get pages after pages of people saying it’s an inside job. They have no actual proof that it is, or anything of substance. They just say it’s an inside job for insurance purposes

Nobody has forgotten, it's just there is no new news to report. Investigations take a while, leads go cold, etc... We'll know more when investigators want us to know more. People need to be patient. Bringing it up again just opens the door to more worthless speculation by a bunch of people with literally no knowledge of the case.

I spoke to somebody within the hobby that I trust that wouldn’t just say things to say things. This person basically indicated they ( meaning the police ect) know what happened, but won’t tell me anything else . It’s weird I know

Well, if the police know what happened, then I assume that we will be finding out at some point about it.

What was stolen? Anything graded can be popped out. Only serial numbered cards would need to be trashed.

Certain vintage cards and comics can be identified by their imperfections. Not all, but the rare stuff, regardless of being in a slab or not. Using a card’s imperfections as identification is what BODA uses in their investigations a lot.

Imperfections can be added or even removed (talking about you Kurt) so it could make it harder to identify if they went that route.

I guess we will have to wait for the sequel to The Town to be released to find out.

The bar for creating a new thread is on the floor.

I get what you’re saying, definitely possible, but if they add imperfections, the old ones remain, and if they try to remove imperfections, the restoration could be detected. Obviously, it’s not a perfect system. It’s just one method that could be used.
