Default Topps Heritage Buybacks

I was opening a box of 2020 Heritage High Numbers and got this Nolan Ryan stamped buyback. I've gotten many no-named Buybacks in the past, but not one like this.
Just curious as to what is the estimated quantity of each card? Also, would this make it more or less desirable for collecting? I appreciate the feedback.

There are more knowledgable Heritage experts on these forums, but it feels like the top names only have one copy.

Boom! Great hit! Typically the bit names don't have many but they do typically have multiple.

My youngest hit a 1959 Topps Frank Robinson a couple of years ago and recently sold it for $75. A similarly conditioned raw version of that card is probably $40ish.

It makes it far more desirable. Ryan has a lot of people who PC him and would want that specific card. Looking at the condition of yours, I'd probably aim for $100 give or take.

There are people that put the buyback sets together, or attempt to. I don't think there are many but even the commons will sell so I can imagine the tough names that are limited should bring a decent amount more than a regular version.

That's actually a huge hit. For about 10 years or so, including 2020 Heritage, Topps inserts one of these stamped buybacks in about every other box. It is believed they have a full set, and there are people who chase the full set, believe it or not, but the stars are generally a lot harder to find than the commons. I opened a case and got 3 of the same utility infielder, for example. To pull a Ryan five years after the set came out is pretty big. It's likely a 1/1, but I don't track these things. There's a FB group called "Topps Heritage Baseball Collectors Unite" that seems to be well-run, and there's at least one guy in it who chases the buyback set every year. You probably should post there.

As to value, it's tough to guess. Definitely more valuable than a regular card, but how much more is one of those 'what the market will bear' questions. You might list it as a straight auction and see how it goes. Or list it for, I dunno, $2000 BIN/BO and see what happens.

None have sold according to Card Ladder. That is an iconic card as well. I could see it fetching pretty big bucks.

Nolan Ryan buyback from 2022 Topps Heritage sold for $350 in 2023 according to terapeak. That's probably your best comp and I would shoot for somewhere between there and $1000.

Keep Up The Quest

Always heartening to know the big cards are included, though I don’t attempt such quests.

There’s a guy on eBay, I think from NH that buys a lot of these. I’ll have to find his username. There’s definitely a strong fan base for these.

Yes. Card is worth minimum $300. Might fetch up to $500

In 22 years of collecting heritage I have never heard or met anyone who cares, let alone collects, these cards.

I don't disagree with your negative take on the buybacks, as I am not a fan either, but they have always sold well. $3-4 apiece for known commons, used to get $6 per pack when they were in sealed box toppers. Someone(s), somewhere(s) likes these things...

Actually, the star cards sell very well, as I have sold a good amount myself, so obviously people do care.

Put a big number on it and see what kinds of offers you get. I know somebody who got $100 for a stamped 1987 topps Pete Rose buyback from a campaign that wasn't as long-running/popular as heritage.

1971 Nolan Ryan is a fairly iconic card aside from it being Nolan Ryan, so my instinct is that someone would find good money to add this.

I went back and looked at image. I think this could do even more than I said earlier.

Not only that, it's a decent well centered. PSA 4 of this card do like $150-170 pretty regularly...so I'd think the stamp might add at least some desirability.

Always a reliable part of breaking multiple cases of Heritage, selling the common buybacks for $4 bucks or so, or getting a good price on lots.

My best player pull is probably Ted Simmons and even he pulled just under $100.

Well in 25 years of collecting Heritage, I have. Glad I could help expand your knowledge of the subject.
