Seems like they are slowing down just a bit, things are taking about a week longer than they were last month. Economy subs are close to the full 20 days now.

Didn't realize that they were increasing prices $2. Gotta Grade 'Em All, Pokémon! I am not grading until prices come down or there is a special with SGC/CGC.

Instagram post promoting mystery gems for Pokémon and gems of the game for sportscards. So all those 2024 donruss football is going into mystery packs. It explains the big boost in Pokémon as well or at least some of it. I think it cheapest the brand especially on the sports card side. They are already though of as a joke, now collectors are just going to think BCCG when pulling these out of retail mystery packs. Blech!!

No different from any other repack mystery product. TAG has them. CGC has them. BGS has them and PSA has them through GameStop. So do you feel the same about PSA? Also CGC is thought of as a joke by “collectors” because they are told to think that way. They made too many label changes for the sports side and many got burned. They made one very smart change on the Pokemon side and that has been recieved far better. CGC has the best looking slaps of the companies I mentioned and it is not even close.

Yes I love the slabs. No I don't feel that way about PSA. Repacks seem like a very small part of their business. PSA is already established as well. I have always gotten BCCG slabs in any of the retail repacks. No I am not "told" to think of CGC has a joke. They did that themselves - bad labels, terrible vintage grading, removed subs, changed grading scale, fixed labels, shut down sports side, tallboy "slabs" are just semi-rigid, and now retail repacks.

Keep in mind I come from this as 100% sports card (and non sports) collector. I don't give too poops about Pokemon. To me, they have become a Pokemon company who happens to grade sports cards if you want them to. I don't see them every making head way in that space aside from one possible event.

I am likely doing one more order with them - some tcg for sale and a batch of TTM autos for them to slab since SGC does not have that service. This will ensure I get full value out of the membership discounts. I am also likely to start moving all of my CGC slabs and sticking with SGC. The one event for CGC is if/when SGC gets dissolved into Collector's push for more PSA, than I will have a decision to make whether to try CGC again or suck it up and just do PSA.

It just bugs me, I was really hoping they would catch on more, but gemrate numbers are abysmal for sports cards every month. I am happy that Pokemon collectors have a good choice against PSA in that space. For sports guys, that is SGC until further notice.

All points well taken. I too feel they blew it with the sport side. My PC is in CSG/CGC (yeah that bugs me) because of their slab! They are indeed a TCG dominant brand that does sports. SGC is a sports dominant brand that does TCG. I think the dominance of PSA makes any other company a non-factor, but having that Pristine label chase is fun for me. SGC being acquired by CU but with no real improvement in their slab is criminal.

CGC is not embraced by many vendors at shows , speaking TCG, but on eBay I am doing well and get stuff back much quicker is a plus in the volatile TCG market.

This was posted on CGC's Facebook today - maybe they are doing better with sports than I was thinking...

"We just certified a record-breaking 341,000 cards in April 2025, smashing our previous record from January, when we graded 306,000 TCGs, sports cards and non-sports cards. 💥📈

With an 88% year-over-year surge, CGC is growing twice as fast as the next leading card grading company. From sports cards up 63% to TCGs and non-sports cards up 92%, we’re proud to be leading the charge in the hobby."

CGC has quite the deal with Fanatics Collect. It seems that every "raw" card that is auctioned off needs to be certified by CGC in a Card Saver. Lots of sports cards graded by CGC on their auctions as well.

Now that is interesting. I don’t do anything Fanatics. CGC is really trending as their TAT kills PSA. Lost ROI maybe, but if those cards are sitting in Research at PSA the lost will be far greater with the ever moving market. Good job CGC.

30-40K seems pretty standard for their monthly sports output. They fight for 3rd with Beckett in that regard. A lot of the sports are Topps Now/Panini Instant shooting for Pristine labels or it seems Gems of the games type repack stuff. If they start getting to 100K a month in sports, you will know that the sports card community embraces the CGC label.

Probably a noob question since I don’t grade much. I sent a sub to CGC in April, just the bulk tier. It is now a full month out and it still says only “Received” on submission tracking. I know it’s a value tier but just how long should I be expecting this to be stuck on Received….shouldnt it be starting to say other things like scheduled for grading?

I haven't graded with them for 6 months, but CGC grading is different than PSA. Once it gets into the scheduled for grading, it moves very quickly. Typically all of the stages are complete in a few days

Oh ok that’s good to know. I guess that explains it, since value bulk tier is 35 working days. I’m only at like 23 so far so I guess they could still smash it all in during the last 10 days or so. I was just confused since there was no change at all to the status in a month beyond received…thought it would at least say scheduled.

I've had subs go from Received to Shipped in 3-4 days. On the other hand, I've had them sit in Scheduled for Grading for a week. Just depends on the flow.

One of the new changes is it moves from received to scheduled for grading pretty quick because that is when they charge your card. It can then sit in grading/encapsulation for a while, but once you see it move from there, expect 2-3 days before grades are available. I have an order that arrived on 05/01 and it has been in grading/encapsulation for a week. I know it will likely be done next week.

Every company is doing this right now for ultra-modern except for SGC/BGS. It is why PSA, CGC, and even TAG can't keep up. Mystery packs are creating another boom in grading and pushing up values of graded ultra-modern cards. This will lead to another crash once this mystery pack nonsense levels off. The crypto and NFT crew are here to take advantage of the gambling of cards and this will not end well. There are only so many graded cards that are needed for mystery packs, especially the online one's. They are treated as NFT's. You gamble, get one back, sell back for 80% of the value immediately, gamble again, sell back, and this goes on for 90% of the cards. Once Arena Club, Courtyard, Beezie, and other online mystery pack gambling machines are full of slabs, they can just recycle the graded crap no one wants and pay you $12 to put it back into their machines.

If I had to pick one thing that will collapse the hobby, it is the stupid mystery packs. A distant second is breakers. The ultra-modern hobby is a complete cesspool right now.

Agreed. Repacks are a virus on the industry

Especially true when grading companies are willing to grade these bulk mystery pack products at or slightly above cost just to boost their output numbers.

Based on an exchange with customer service… they’re telling me when its a card CGC has never graded an example of yet, it usually takes extra time because they have to make new entries into the system for that. My sub was a 38 card sub all from the same parallel set of a set released just in Dec, 2024. There are a few graded by CGC in this parallel set in the pop report, but many with pop 0.

So I guess they’re gonna take longer because it takes that long to make a new entry. That’s my understanding at least.

Perhaps, that or text them. I use that function a few times a year. save number in phone. 1-855-472-3310

I think your order should have been in SFG at least by now if truly a month out. Usually within 2-3 weeks max lately hit SFG, but they do seem a bit busier rn
