CGC raised prices to $14 for bulk and $17 for standard. SGC intentionally has produced a backlog, seems to have reduced the number of graders with the gem rate data, and is getting ready for their own price hike IMO. $18 grading by the end of the month is very likely with what has been going on.

Got my grades, and they shipped out today. Overall I'm pretty happy, although not quite sure I get the two 9s. The 8.5 makes sense as I can see in their scans it does have an issue on the back bottom edge that I apparently missed.
Results: 14 Contenders Cracked Ice Jordy Nelson.............. 10 GM 14 Prizm Camo Favre (Packers)........................... 10 GM 14 Prizm Red/White/Blue Jordy Nelson................. 10 GM 15 Prizm Draft Picks Green Jordy Nelson............... 9 15 Prizm Red Mojo Jordy Nelson.......................... 9.5 15 Prizm Green Cracked Ice Jordy Nelson............. 10 GM 15 Prizm Violet Mosaic Jordy Nelson..................... 9.5 15 Prizm Tie Dyed Jordy Nelson........................... 8.5 (one with the bottom edge issue) 16 Prizm Green Power Jordy Nelson..................... 9 16 Prizm Draft Picks Gold Jordy Nelson ............... 10 GM 17 Donruss Optic Green Jordy Nelson.................. 9.5 17 Donruss Optic White Sparkle Jordy Nelson....... 10 GM Total: 10 GM - 5 9.5 - 5 9 - 2 8.5 - 1 I'd say that's a pretty good result! This has me feeling really good about the other 2014 Prizm stuff I have currently being graded, as nearly all of the others I subbed were as good of quality as the two I subbed here, aside from 2 that I wasn't entirely sure of. The RWB Jordy is an alternate for the one I subbed to PSA that I think isn't going to grade well. Last edited by bojesphob; 05-06-2025 at 05:21 PM. |

Here are my grades from all 6 cards in this 80s/90s special order: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Nolan Ryan was a crackout from a previous SGC 7.5 I had graded, and I thought it might be worthy of an SGC 8. But alas, it came back another SGC 7.5, so that's a push. I'll take it. It was worth the $12.50 grading fee to roll the dice. Really happy with the Cliff Branch rookie. Such a beautiful card! Looking forward to receiving these soon.

Sent in an 8 card order to SGC that arrived by USPS today.
SGC also "received" it today as well. The clock starts today. So that's a good sign that SGC is no longer taking a few days or a week to log in order. Back to same-day received for my latest order.

For sure, my last order took a week for them to unbox. Might be all the specials than ran are completed and we get a bit back to normal. It will be a few months before I get money for another SGC order. I have a couple of conventions here that will suck my hobby budget away.

the thing is, it's not due to more submissions, because why would there be so much more, especially non TCG whose subs would go to different graders than TCG?
IOW, the non TCG subs are almost guaranteed to be the same rate so there should be no change in turn-around for non TCG. It's simply due to Collectors (PSA) buying out SGC and even though they say SGC is going to still operate "independently" that's just a lie and it shows that PSA is just trying to monopolize the overall grading card segment and blaming it on TCG. Once more, the industry has gotten even MORE corrupt, not less. This is where anti-trust matters, but since it's unregulated this segment will probably get much worse before there is any hope of it getting better. If only Biden were still pres would there still be hope. I'd even settle for obama, at least he wanted to "keep hope alive". Last edited by salsdali; 05-17-2025 at 04:27 AM. |

Yeah Biden would have cleaned up 3rd party grading. Huge priority for the US government

Sent a few Red Man 50's cards and a T202. Not in a rush to grade, but larger cards like this scare me with card savers or large flimsy top loaders. $15 for cards like this are well worth it to me.

Had another SGC order, and grades popped today.
Order Received: 04-18-25 Graded: 05-21-25 So just over a month to get the cards received/graded by SGC. Argh. Not great, but again, better than PSA by a mile, and more importantly, better grading consistency. This is all PC stuff, vintage and cards that look vintage. It was a 16 card order, and here are some highlights: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Really happy with the cards/grades, and to me, these just look great in the tux.

My sub I got back last month took about a month. Definitely still shorter than PSA, for sure, but definitely not super fast.

Yeah, the new SGC turnaround times suck, but PSA far worse.
I sent off another small PC order to SGC today. Will report back in 4-5+ weeks when the grades pop.

Submitted: 05-23-25
Received: 05-27-25 Graded:?? Delivered today and received the same day. 25 card order of Panini Instant Paige Bueckers play. I usually use PSA for most plays, but I don't think these cards will age well. I hopefully will have them back next month and I will share my wins and losses with everyone. |

I am an SGC guy, so I am putting this here instead of under PSA news. PSA is opening a location in Boca Raton RIGHT NEXT DOOR to SGC. I remember Peter mentioning that SGC was looking to buy a location next door for expansion. Maybe I am mistaken about that.
https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.co...kets-in-texas/ Either way, I can't see this has being a good thing for SGC. The article states they will operation independently. I would say - For now. To me this signals that Collector's doesn't have any plans to expand SGC. My theory on why Collector's bought SGC was more about getting qualified vintage graders more than anything. Vintage takes longer to grade. I think some of the longer wait time for SGC is getting them trained the PSA way and having standards aligned a bit more. I can see PSA just taking over the SGC spot to make it a bigger more efficient facility. It will be the primary place to send vintage. I like SGC and have 100's of slabs, but I am now even more bearish on their future. I think I will hold off on any subs for awhile to see how some of this shakes out. |
