Default Do the last Panini offerings have legs?

Will collectors/flippers be waxing nostalgic over the final main Panini brands in five+ years?

Panini knows how to use them.

Panini never begs.

Panini knows how to choose them.

Believe it or not, 2015 Topps had the "longest legs" of any football product IIRC was pretty crazy demand-wise until like a little before the pandemic, sure it pumped then too - just didn't pay attention as there were less posts about it

No. That’s why everything they put out this year is trash. They are making all of it as low cost as possible. Even flawless has been terrible.

From a collector perspective or a flipper perspective?

I think they can/will ... depends on why/how you're collecting/ripping.

Only the early Panini stuff and low numbered stuff will hold any value long term. Early Flawless, NT, Prizm Silvers & Colors ect. Golds will always be good but everything else as far as "rare" inserts the earlier the better. The stuff over the last 4-5 years I don't see holding value long term except for RC QBs if they pan out.

2018 seems to be the cut-off before the overproduction phase.

In 2017 you have Mahomes carrying the brands (Tatum to a lesser extent in Bball), and in 2018 you have a great bball class (SGA, Luka, Brunson) and a loaded QB class (Allen, Lamar, Baker...Barkley too).

Then in 2019 you have huge print runs and a year of releases headlined by Zion Kyler Murray.

2017/2018 was the last chance I had at FOTL. Miss those days. Prizm FOTL for $120

Depends on how they go out. If they can secure an auto only deal with a huge rookie their last year..that set/year will be in high demand and remembered for a long time. It will be the usual suspects of sets too (Prizm/Optic/NT/Flawless).

If they go out like 2015 Topps where the base set was one of the ugliest of all time, The superfractors weren't even bright/shiny, and they spammed the same set over and over (Base topps, Topps Chrome, Topps Chrome Mini, 60th anniversary factory set, Topps Superbowl 50, Online Exclusive oversized Black set, Online oversized exclusive Red set, etc plus all of the parallels.) Then people will quickly forget other than fan boys.

Also depends on how Fanatics takes care of things. If they keep releasing junk like Resurgence, Midnight, Cosmic Chrome, etc and don't ever put out a decent High end set or a nice looking set with a deep rookie auto checklist like a Contenders. Then people will think about the Panini days.

No doubt. Except for the last part. Not sure anyone will be missed. The modern Golden age has been over for years. It's all about the buck now in general more than ever.

I was especially thinking about Contenders. What was once one of the most loved brands, when it’s gone, will the last year be popular in a high value way?

I'm not that optimistic about Topps myself. Not saying Panini is great of course, I'm just not sold as Topps hitting it out of the park.

One of the main draws of Playoff Contenders was that most of the autographs were on-card. But now, flash forward to 2025 and the sell-sheet promises only one on-card auto and the rest are stickers. And you know Panini's not going to reduce the price any to reflect this drop in quality.

Stick it where the sun don't shine, Poonini.

I doubt it. The way they've watered down the set so much the last 10+ years, it matters less and less.

We have all gone through this before.

The top rookie cards to get were Upper Deck SP & SP Authentic. Those RC Patch/Auto in SPA were atop every PC list. And if you wanted high end, no one could beat Exquisite.

2010, Upper Deck was gone. Topps Chrome then fought with Contenders for best RC auto. As 5 Star did with National Treasures for high end.

2016, Topps was out. And Panini brands won by default.

Outside of a few key super stars. Not many are going back to collect pre 2010 UD football. Or pre 2016 Topps. The same way not many will be chasing pre 2026 (or whatever) Panini brands.

Out of site, out of mind. Nothing new to collect, collectors lose interest.

Congrats on 42,000, but the majority of autos on card hasn't been a thing since 2000.

From 2001-2008, every card was a sticker auto.

Since 2009, a handful of cards each year are signed by some of the higher profile rookies, but the majority were still stickers.

The gimmicks are all tired and watered down.

Uptowns, Downtowns, legendary downtowns (Midtown and Suburb parallels are next), color blast sets in seemingly every set produced, sets that were once Hobby only watered down to include retail with 100 different levels, parallels, and random die cuts (looking at you Select), "ultra high-end" sets costing thousands of dollars full of patches not related to any player, game, or event, etc etc....

Don't let the door hit you, Panini
