Default Took 13 years, but I FINALLY found a 2 dollar card I needed

I heavily collected Packers stuff from the late 80s up through to around 2017, and was a hard core Jordy Nelson collector, especially from when he was drafted up through, again, around 2017. I have several extremely low cost "rainbows"... I call them that, but it's stuff that had maybe one numbered card and maybe 2 or 3 other variations, and no 1/1, like Topps Strata, Topps Magic, etc.

Anyhow, one of the years/sets I wanted all of the versions for Jordy was 2012 Rookies & Stars. I know, cheap set, not really worth anything, but I really liked the design from that year, and had all of the base versions of Charles Woodson, so wanted to have all of them for Jordy as well.

So, as you see, I have been missing the Ruby version. I've had saved searches on eBay, COMC, and will occasionally look on other sites like the Beckett marketplace, etc. Just this past week, I FINALLY - after 13 years of searching - found it on sportslots and have it in hand!

Not the most exciting card to get, I know, but this should have been an extremely easy card to get, and somehow was harder than find than other stuff I've had over the years that was technically far more rare. Even though I no longer collect like I did, still kind of fun to get this one card that's eluded me for so long.

Congratulations. If I had known of your search, I might have been able to help. I know that I opened 10+ cases of that product, various formats, and would have put that in my $1 boxes, sorted by team. I sold them all to two different LCS owners a handful of years ago and I'd be willing to dive back through the packers boxes for you at their shops if there is something specific you need like that in the future.

Incidentally, if you have needs like that from the last 3-4 years worth of product, I'll have the current version of my $1 boxes at the National. I am limiting myself to one 3-row box, penny sleeved, per team for space sake, so I'll have about 1800 cards per team (each sport). I also have $4 boxes for nicer inserts, cheap GU, etc., but not as many of those.

Looking for Andre Dawson Serial numbered cards that are his jersey number - either #8 or #10. So looking for cards like 8/8 or 08/99 or 10/250.

Well, I had been inactive on here for the most part of about 7 years before I started grading back in November to sell stuff. I might have posted back around 2012/13 about it when it was out, but I had honestly given up on ever finding this one years ago, to be completely honest! Aside from occasionally ripping packs for the gits and shiggles and keeping whatever Packers cards I pull, I've not been actively buying stuff since 2018.

Congrats, I check Sportlots weekly to see if someone has uploaded a rare card I need. I find a new one about every six months

Burbank Sportscards tends to have a lot of that stuff also. I remember a story about them moving their inventory from eBay over to Fanatics, but not sure if that ever happened.

Did you ever complete that 2014 Prizm one. Think you needed a pink BCA of Janis or some other Packer.

I had a few 2014 things I needed at one point. The one that I hadn't seen was a pink Scott Tolzien, which appeared for the first time a couple months ago. I gave up on those and sold all of the rare stuff for everything but the Jordy Nelson base and hands team rainbows (those are all graded now, though). Only have those two Finites from the 8 Packers Finites from 2014 I used to have.

This is great! Congrats! Today, I have a rarer Ichiro arriving in the mail after looking for 1.5 years lol. And I thought that I had waited a long time. 13 years is nuts!

Stories like these are my favorite ones to read on here. Well done and congratulations on finally tracking it down. I'm a Vikings fan, but always had a special appreciation for Jordy.

Nice! I know the struggle. It always happens in waves now. 0 cards I need popping up for a year and then two in a month.

You just never know when you will find that diamond in the rough. That is a nice parallel but to most, very nondescript but to the one who seeks it. That quest has been accomplished.

Did you ever deal with that other Jordy Nelson collector, I believe Tommy something or another ? He seemed like a good guy but the moderators put him in a full Nelson where he may have tapped out? I went after Jordy only because I liked those K-State years. Thought he was decent but never expected him to be what he became. Anyways, hope your next quest is conquered in a timelier fashion though it sure does taste sweeter like wine when it takes time.

Tommyfreethrows I think his name was? Yeah, dealt with him quite a bit over the years back when I was fully in my Prizm collecting mode. We did quite a few trades. I wasn't around when he stopped posting, so I have no idea what happened with him. He must not be collecting much, either, as I have been selling some of my higher end things from Prizm for Jordy the past 8 months or so, and his name hasn't popped up yet. Neither has the other big Jordy collector I used to do trades with that back then had super deep pockets. Funny how that goes, I guess!

I am happy to finally grab this Ruby parallel, though! Funny how even though I've mostly stepped away from collecting, finding this one was still extremely satisfying!

LOL of course I remembered it backasswards. Tried contacting him not too long ago to see if he would be interested in any of the stuff I've been selling, and never heard back from him. He was a good guy, at least from my interactions with him. Hope he's doing well.

I am doing just fine, thanks for thinking of me!

Nice pickups! Glad you were able to find what you needed.

Thomas, thought David Paulides was going to discuss you. Where in the love of Blowout did you go ? Good to hear back from you. I sent a PM because you went from a Blowout champ to working on Jordy’s farm, retirement.

Glad you are ok !

Hey! Glad to see you're still around and kicking! I actually really miss the old buy/sell/trade days on here back around 2012-2018. Feels like all of the enjoyment has gone out of collecting, except for some occasional glimpses of it. Definitely miss the days of being able to afford cases of cards, even if the odds to hit anything worthwhile were small.

You have great patience and drive.

I feel fulfilled for you.

That’s what keeps the passion going as collectors - the thrill and lulls of the chase.
