Maybe that is why collector boxes are $1k on tcgplayer now...wild

I opened the rest of the boxes I had. Said screw it. Got lots and lots of fun stuff. I’m not really selling any of it since I love FF in general. The collector box prices are probably going to keep climbing. There’s numerous cards now that are worth $400+ that exclusively or mainly come out of those. Like one box of mine I pulled 5 surge foils (best was a Tifa), a foil alt art borderless Sephiroth, foil borderless sephiroth, and reg borderless sephiroth. Even without hitting one of the “major” surge foils I still probably yielded $1k in single prices from the box. I added up the single values of the 5 boxes I opened and it’s right around $5k. That’s pretty crazy.

Really nuts what is happening with this product. I think it's safe to say at this point that despite being the most hyped thing MTG has ever done, the demand was still underestimated.

My sole collector booster box is tucked away in a closet currently, I don't think I can bring myself to open it while the price is just skyrocketing up and up with no looking back.

Collector commander decks might be worth a look now. Seems like people are dumping those to buy CBBs. Time to zig is when people zag kind of situation?

My son bought a command deck and got a Cloud out of the 2 card pack. Is that one of the higher priced Clouds or some variant? I don’t know this stuff very well.

As an avid Final Fantasy fan and card collector, I'm disappointed this fell off my radar. I have no issue with sitting on the sidelines until all the madness gets sorted out. The speculation and scalping on this product is crazy.

If the CBB get to $1500 I will move mine. I was going to open one and hold onto the other CBBs I bought but I'm happy with doubling my money and moving it into something else with Collect-A-Con coming in July near me and the National.

I like FF but not that much to rip at current prices as I just got mine in the mail a few days ago.

I agree 100%. Those are almost certain to enjoy a steady appreciation over time, and it's very probable we are currently in the bottom valley price-wise. The Warhammer collector decks exploded in value after awhile and that IP (while still hugely popular) represents a fraction of the demand here. Believe it or not, the "Scions and Spellcraft" one was going for about the price of a CBB circa early-May; now resting in the low-200s.

The easiest theory is that the average non-MtG-playing FF collector who is dumping money into this release doesn't really understand what Commander is, what the purpose of the deck is, whether to keep it sealed or to open, etc. If that hypothetical person is wanting to actually learn the game, they're likely getting the starter deck set, or attending a limited event, but probably not buying and ripping open the premium version of a more complicated entry-point to playing.

It's much easier I'd imagine to simply identify the hottest streamlined premium products (CBB and packs) and the hot ticket singles (surges, Amano arts, etc.) and plunge forward in that direction.

My guess is the rampant spike of collector commander deck prices pre-release were from speculating MtG collectors, while the actual big money FF spenders understandably are not valuing a more niche product the same way the native player base is.

I'm just hanging on for the ride at this point. My CBB and the small handful of high-end collector-exclusive singles I've accumulated will be in my trade portfolio for MagicCon Atlanta in September. Hopefully they stay hot and provide good trade bait for some big boy reserve list cards on my want list. That's the current plan

Hi, everyone. I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I've never bought any MTG of any kind before and I opened 4 packs from a Final Fantasy Collector box today at $100 a pack (bad timing I know). I got the following card and was told it was really good.

My question is, is it pretty much a dead box now or is it possible to pull something else that's good? Thank you for any help.

100% possible to pull other chase cards. I've seen plenty of break where multiple high value cards came out. Heck, I've seen packs with two surge foil mythics pop. That's not me saying to buy more, but that it's not like sports cards where you get one chase card in a box. Some boxes have a ton, some of none, just the way it works with MTG.

Bought 3 more packs. I hope I got my money back. Should I keep going?

TCGPlayer has up to date pricing on the cards.

Current market average on Cloud is $90 USD.

Kefka is 25, Sephiroth 40, Tifa 20, Clive 20.

Good news is average sale on Yuna is 750-800.

So you are in the black for now.

If you're buying for love of collecting the cards keep going.

If you're looking at investment standpoint I would stop soon.

Wow, didn't know the Yuna was that much! Beginners luck I guess.

Sorry, I realized I should have mentioned it earlier but the Cloud and Tifa are not shiny (regular? normal?) and the others have a refractorish shine (foil?) just in case that makes a difference in pricing.

I'm generally a collector (unless a I need the money to buy something else) so I might keep going. Of course that's only if there's a possibility that there's something good left.

Thanks for the help!

Crazy how fast the set is tanking. I guess it took off way to hard too fast and is coming back to Earth. Enjoying picking up more singles and sealed product at reasonable prices. Just wondering where the bottom is.

Yeah, I still love opening the play booster boxes and picking up the Final Fantasy VII cards I want to collect graded as they are dropping quite a bit.

The collector box is still expensive, but if the play boosters keep dropping closer to $115, this is a great set to put away.

The Bundle Chocobo art cards are nice, but I just want the VII cards.

Even the collector box is about to hit sub $1k. Just one of those things where the hype has worn off. This is a set I want to 100% complete at some point minus the gold chocobo so this is great.

Sounds like it might be one retailer that’s unloading boxes, rumor is they are in incredibly deep on Spider-Man and Avatar and are trying to make up for the losses they have. Wizards went too hard on UB, having three of your sets be UB was a bad idea.

Anyone looking to grab a Chocobo bundle or any of the other holiday releases coming out this week?

I have one Chocobo bundle in the mail that I pre-ordered which should get here in the next couple of days; I probably overpaid and I suspect these are going to be heavily printed and pretty accessible at Big Box retailers, but I definitely wanted one as the special chocobo track foils look really, really good and contain some of the key cards in the set.

They sell out almost instantly, not as fast as pokemon, when they are listed on Amazon or last night on Walmart.com for <$120
