Where are young people gonna learn about guys like Ruth, Aaron and Mays? Well, son, there's this thing called the internet, and it's my understanding that young people are on it all the time. Google "greatest baseball players of all time" and see who comes up. Look at who holds most of the career records. Those names are there.
When I was in my 20s, I had no interest in vintage cards, but as I have become more vintage myself, I have gained appreciation for them. That's the normal progression. I still think Mantle is a little overrated, because he doesn't rank that high on the all time leader boards and I don't care about the New York market. But Ruth, Aaron, Mays are right up there at the top. |

There's a difference between knowing the baseball legends and being interested in their vintage cards.
You can also appreciate vintage cards (or vintage anything) without having any interest in actually owning them. The fact of the matter is that most of the younger generation don't particularly care for vintage cards. |

Tie between the Jackie and Mantle for me with the Ohtani coming in 3rd if you're feeling frisky.
My write in candidate is a PSA 7-8 Frank Thomas NNOF. |

when one starts collecting its natural for them to collect what they see in front of them in both cards and on the field
over time you start to go backwards and pick up old crap. thats how it works

I agree, when I collected as a kid (early 90s) I wanted the current stuff. I did pine after the vintage cards in the price guide and at the hobby shop but they weren’t in my price range at the time. When I got back into the hobby (2015ish) I started buying junk wax and current stuff, eventually I started going backwards starting with the 80s. Now I’m closing in on finishing my 72 set and picking up 60s HOFERS. Most of the 50s stuff is not in my budget but then again I never thought I’d own a Brett RC when I was a kid in the early 90s. Only one of those cards is on my current wish list so it got my vote. I'd go with the Jackie.

Going with Robinson, just going to try and find the nicest eye appeal 2-2.5 I can find.
If nothing jumps out at me, I'll do the most logical thing and invest in who ever goes first in this years draft

I’m in my mid 40s and I absolutely LOVE vintage cards. 50s has some beautiful sets. I imagine there will always be people like me gravitating towards those iconic cards.

Just because it's always been someway doesn't mean that it will continue to be, especially when a lot of new hobby participants are being brought in through the "flip", "gamble", or "inve$$$t" channels. |

Human behavior is very easy to predict based on past behavior. There is nothing whatsoever to indicate it will change in this instance. In fact, every indicator says vintage is going nowhere and more and more younger people are getting into it. It is completely baseless to suggest otherwise. Anecdotes like a kid buying a Judge ball instead of DiMaggio means literally nothing. Further, if your claim is new collectors are looking to invest, then it's even more likely they migrate to vintage as they age and begin to value safer investments. Even the "influencers" are switching to hyping vintage. |

The poors (hint, hint) don't go backwards. Too expensive.

Sort of...that old stuff costs a lot.
New stuff costs a lot, too. Either way, it's not a poor man's hobby. That's why some of us have to pretend.

I can't believe that the Willie Mays RC is coming in last behind two current players and 'Pie'.

I voted pie because Goudey Ruth was not an option, and would be the best choice

Ohtani and Judge are one injury away from their careers being over. As stellar as their careers are, it can and has happened before, especially as they age. Ohtani already has 2 Tommy John surgeries, and it could have been catastrophic when Judge was hit in the face the other day by an errant throw.
I think back on Kirby Puckett and his being hit in the jaw late in 1995. It ended his season, and he was gearing up for a return next Spring he woke up one morning and his eye was bad, and ling story short, he had to retire due to loss of vision. He had driven in 112 RBI in 1994 before the strike and was having another great season in 1995 before being hit. Stuff happens. No one saw the injury train Acuna has been on. My question to investors is do you think prices would hold long term for Ohtani or Judge if a career ending injury happened before any all-time marks were hit? Still HOFers and all, but falling short of major milestones… does that impact long term investment? Of the two I’d say Ohtani holds better than Judge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would guess active players always have a quick flip component to their prices (this dude might win an MVP this year). I don't know how much of their current prices ate made up of that, but I'd guess it's higher for Ohtani and Judge than it is for any other players. At some point that will fall out when they start to slow down.
