That's some next level copium right there. The argument was Trout is hitting fastballs better than breaking balls this year. Stats confirm it, so you have to make up some ridiculous, unfounded, and unprovable reason for it.

64.9% of the pitches thrown to Trout this season have been fastballs (4-seam, 2-seam, and cutters). 22.9% have been sliders (sliders, sweepers and slurves).

He gears up for the heater and gets fooled on sharp breaking balls. He's overcompensating for his vulnerability against heaters, and it's costing him against sliders.

I also never said he was hitting worse against fastballs -- that was someone else. What I did was show that he's still underwhelming against high velocity.

Halos are also 2nd in the league in strikeout rate, almost 26%

I see you are new to baseball. Let me introduce you to the modern game. Pitchers throw flat gas. Hitters have no choice but to "gear up for the fastball." And consequently, these nasty 90 mph sliders modern pitchers have are devastating.

I know you think you are making some great revelation about Trout, but you are doing nothing but making an observation about all baseball in general and pretending like it applies only to Trout. And that's lame.

An exception to the rule is Jhoan Duran. He can gear up a 100 mph slider/sinker with sick late movement, so in that particular case, the hitter is F'ed both ways. Lol

Well, unless your last name is Ohtani.

It's unique to Trout because he used to hit high velocity fastballs well. His bat speed has likely dropped off, which has forced him to adjust his approach.

Mike Trout (illness) is out of the starting lineup Saturday against the White Sox.
Trout missed Friday’s game with the unspecified illness, and he’ll sit again Saturday. Trout should continue to be considered day-to-day with a decent chance of returning Sunday for the finale against Chicago.

I feel like his strikeout rate is becoming a real concern.

30% K rate this year is extremely high.

Anytime somebody who critiques Trout, it’s considered being a hater. He was a great performer when he was able to perform. As of his last 62 at bats, Trout has struck out 33 times. This isn’t inner circle HOF when a player isn’t struggling for 3,000 hits but to reach 1,725 hits. With 48 games to go, he can’t afford to be benched after missing 30 games as is. At this pace, he is going to be a 200 strike out player with less than 500 at bats.
As far as post season being moved to another team, that’s a pipe dream. The Angels are dumping $37+ Million on a player that was. I’m not sure about Rendon and his contract but the Angels have too much weight for non production and the odds of them reaching the playoffs are near done this season and next doesn’t appear much brighter.

I think the fact that there are no longer posts to this thread of Trout pickups and discussions of “how high will Trout prices go?” that were prevalent even a couple of years ago makes it seem to some that the thread is filled with haters.

I don’t really see that. I still see people rooting for Trout, it’s just discussion has dropped off at the same time his production and hobby love have dropped off. You can only really talk about what is going on and Trout has done well since becoming full time DH but his stats now get lost in the shuffle of other players. In the past he was head and shoulders above the rest.

Trout is a cautionary tale about how a guy can go from a “sure thing” to “what happened”. I can’t recall a larger scale fall from the pinnacle of a major sport than Trout. This guy was as elite as one can get for a ten year stretch, now looks like he’s closing in on the end of a career. I used to kick myself after I sold all my Trouts to cover some expenses but now, boy am I glad I did.

What we are witnessing is the ignorance, defiance or just plain stubbornness of Trout fans / collectors to see what the rest of the baseball world sees.

Prices and collectibility are based on multiple subjective parts within a players career. I’ve seen Production as in 500 home runs, 3,000 hits, Playoff history, MVP’s & other awards, WAR, etc be utilized as selling points for Trout’s cards and its values. Some members hold certain parts of what we consider higher in terms of the players card value over others. Some members attempt to hide value in terms of success. Trout has highly successful sales of his cards based on WAR and his MVP voting based on his WAR.

As far as production, I take what his peers have done in the same era and ages. Trout was a sensational performer and it elevated his card values till the last 3 seasons. What Trout has done by the age of 33 with his MVP’s and WAR has helped his value. Trout’s production by age 33 in the regular and post season vs Pujols & Cabrera don’t even sniff in value. When a performer isn’t able to perform on average 35 plus games a year as a non catcher then the team is going to suffer, that is the ante because the best players are paid extremely high and are impossible to replace. Availability has value even in the hobby.
Since Trout turns 34 tomorrow, I’ll gladly show where Pujols, Cabrera and Trout stood as far as production in the regular and post season. It’s not hate but reality as to Mike limping in the twighlight of his career to reach unreachable numbers. Trout’s production numbers are more aligned with Dale Murphy and Bobby Bonds by age 33.

The Trout Years were great, but that time has come to an end.

if you are too poor to keep his cards in your collection, then it is best to sell them

the "downturn" happens to all breathing players, i hope you are able to keep some cards in your collection
