Thanks for the info. I did break the seal to inspect the card as the damage wasn’t readily apparent through all the packaging in my case. Will eBay just tell me I’m out of luck with no seal?

In this case, for whatever reason the seller accepts returns even after authentication and I am still in the return window. So I think I can still just file a return and then the seller would have to try to deal with eBay on their end?

Seems like it could be difficult to determine if card is damaged with the seal still in tact. The seal alone covers about 1/5th of the card back itself. Then the card is in the pennysleeve, top loader or rigid (the one the seller sent it in, not a new one in many cases) and the team set bag or slab sleeve with a big sticker on it.

eBay basically said "sucks to be you" and here is what we can offer:

-final value fee credit
-defect item / negative feedback protection
-free return shipping

Am I winning?

Does anyone know if they pop Topps Now Relic cards out of the Topps Now cases and put them into Semi-Rigid sleeves?

They shouldn't.

It appears the AG program has lost a card I purchased. The seller never uploaded tracking on EBay but messaged me the tracking number. It was delivered on 7/24 but no update from eBay about it being authenticated or shipped from the AG location. I called eBay and they said it looked like the seller didn’t use the eBay shipping label. They checked in the system to see if the card had been noted as needing to be matched to a sale but couldn’t find anything to that effect. Given it was a graded card with a PSA serial number along with it being low pop and a low serial numbered card it shouldn’t be hard to pull the card up as a recent sale and match the information. There has been no update from eBay in the past few days so I’m sure I will just end up with a refund instead of the card .

Sounds like seller didn't really want to sell the card. Did ypu get a good deal? As it is, it's a failed sale so seller don't get any money. Kinda suspicious seller didn't upload tracking to ebay for the sale.

+1, that was my initial thought. Sometimes the tracking looks unusual, like the tracking# doesn't show til the 2nd leg of the trip, post-auth-check. But it shows progress & delivery from the first leg in near real time.

I got the refund today. The seller just messaged me to ask what’s going on because he shipped to the required address and will be disputing. I’m not sure why the seller didn’t respond within the 3 days EBay allowed to write a response and provide them with the tracking number (which I actually provided) in my initial claim of item not received.

The whole situation is bizarre and a lot of it is falling back on the seller for their inaction to to follow through with uploading the tracking number in the first place and then not responding to EBay’s item not received inquiry.

No need for you to respond to the seller any more. Seller failed to do what's necessary for an AG item. AG program works more often than not. I've never had a problem knock on wood as either buyer or seller.

Yeah I wasn’t planning on responding anymore. Last fall I had a guy who alleged he sent a 1K card but the tracking was simply Label created. He swore he dropped it at the PO. Maybe he did maybe he didn’t. He got pissed when I submitted an Item not received request as he asked for a few more days for it to show up in the Postal system. I gave the few days and when I filed he threatened to drive to my house if I got a refund and the card ever showed up after (never did arrive). With that kind of nonsense I’m glad there are multiple people out there with my name and I was having the card shipped to a 3rd party location (so for some of the negatives mentioned for vaults and SMC that is one advantage).

I just purchased an upper deck patch auto Hall of Fame off of eBay. The authentication came back customized item. Does anybody know why it would come back customize item it is a patch auto SP authentic football card from the 2000’s. The patch is just a plain green patch nothing fancy.

Because they don't authenticate the patch, only the card

Did you actually read the message from ebay, or are you just looking at the tracking info? I think the tracking will indicate "Customized Item", but the e-mail you get from ebay should be clearer. Here's what a recent message I received said:
We wanted to let you know that your item was authenticated, but also contains an aftermarket signature or embedded relic that we don't authenticate as part of our process. We stand behind the authenticity of your item, but we can't guarantee things like relics, memorabilia, or aftermarket autographs. Check out your order details to track your shipment.

Thanks, I was slightly worried.

This just happened to my 1/1 2011 Canary gold I purchased that was sent to Authentication. Seller didn't upload tracking until after card arrived to authenticator. Tracking was uploaded as card "received", but eBay ended up losing my 1/1 and refunded today. Goodbye 1/1, see you never.

One time a seller didn't use eBay to print a shipping label and instead marked my order manually as shipped (didn't even input the tracking #) but the card arrived a few days later so I was like whatever. But strange how they didn't just use eBay's label. This was *not* an order that went through AG however.

I’ve had sellers do this, often beginning sellers…but it’s usually they purchased the shipping at the retail counter and didn’t bother with entering the tracking number in on eBay.

This also sometimes happens with large consignment companies sending to eBay AG. Had a >$500 card one time bought from a major consignment company, and it was simply marked “shipped”…no tracking. Turns out they send huge batches to eBay AG at once, covering many listings..so there is not a separate tracking number for every listing to upload.

What are peoples experiences with variant listings and eBay AG? Variant as in one listing with a drop down box that covers like 100 cards, and the buyer picks which card. If the cards in the variant listing are mostly like $50, but one or two are $400….do those ones above the threshold still get the eBay AG or not? Does the listing become “AG’d” by clicking on certain cards in the drop down menu and not others?

Edit: surprisingly, the answer appears to be no…even the single cards >$250 don’t get eBay AG.

Yeah, I had that with Probstein on a big card. They are right across the street from PSA, so they just drop off large shipments directly to PSA.
