Ruth (cut) / Ryan / Skenes...something for all generations.

This may be a really dumb question and I hesitate to ask it - but how did they get Cy Young and Walter Johnson on a sticker auto on that card?

It’s a fake/digital card.

The main point was a the joke that modern pitchers can’t consistently pitch 9 innings anymore like the old-timers and their 78 MPH fastballs did back in the day.

If we bring cuts into the convo - wouldn’t Paige, Mathewson, and Alexander be the call? Maybe sub Walter Johnson for Paige…

DOH! Yep, I suspected something, didn't look that closely.

Why stop at 3, how about a "Passing the Torch" 6-player for Active Pitchers:

Kershaw/Verlander/Scherzer
Skubal/Skenes/Misiorowski

From a single franchise Mt. Rushmore perspective, my vote goes to this one:

Well, this card is 2 of the above 3, and I could stomach having the Rocket as the 3rd even though there's the stain of him being a Yankee.

edit: OK, found one of my holy grail trio! Though Big Unit's in yankee pinstripes. *barf*

Modern analysts agree Walter Johnson’s fastball was between 90 and 100 mph.

Using the one outlier to try and disprove what he said is pretty stupid, even for you

Was Walter Johnson not on the digital card she was referencing? I’m not sure who you are but please do provide some examples of my “stupidity”.

Key word “likely”….ah…trust the science

Were there radar guns back then? Did someone stopwatch from release to glove so the calculations could be made.

Let’s bring in the bat into the argument, or even the materials used in the ball. Something we can actually study.

“Likely” their assessment/assumptions are wrong

Jesus Christ. He implied he was talking about the average pitcher from the era, not Walter Johnson specifically

I don't know. I asked chatbot and they said this is likely. Weird how the card looks so mint for the age. No rounded corners.
Okay this is dumb. Only cardz i can afford these days.

Isn't the uniform Johnson is wearing in that card the Diamondbacks pinstripes?

Science is a pretty accurate thing. After all only 66% of millennials believe the earth is round despire the Greeks using Mathematics to show it was in the 3rd century BC.

Walter Johnson was clocked throwing 91 MPH. We know that he threw at least that. The higher estimate is because he was wearing a suit and dress shoes, throwing off a flat surface. Maybe we should have Paul Skenes wear a suit and replicate Johnson to see how much we should add to Johnson's velocity.

You're right, my eyes deceived me. In that case, it would be passable.

The most valuable trio of living pitchers would be Ryan(Mets)/Koufax/Ohtani(Dodgers).

Let’s not have an outburst here. You’re about as sensitive as the guy you named yourself after.

Yeah, he's not in the 300-win club. He has the most walks in MLB history, by a lot -- 2,795 vs Steve Carlton's second-most of 1,833. Career Win-Loss percentage of 52.6% -- basically a roll of the dice. Second most losses in MLB history behind Cy Young, who had 187 more wins. 112 ERA+ puts him near the bottom of Hall of Fame starters. No Cy Young Awards. Shall I go on?

Look -- I get it; he's a darling of fans who grew up in the 80s. He had a macho, tough-guy personality. You have nostalgia for him. But he just wasn't that good.

Correction: He's in the 300-win club.
