He's a stud! Problem is... he's a Ray. Not many care about them. That's why there hasn't been much of an increase in the price of his cards.

I can't tell you how many breaks I've been in over the past 10 years in which Tampa Bay has been the last team purchased. The Rays are the last team to get picked up about 95 percent of the time. (EXCEPTION: Franco rookie card frenzy.)

His good 2023 stuff (autos, #'d) is up pretty substantially, especially graded. The 2024 stuff is definitely lagging behind.

This is also the clearest example of the continued decoupling of base vs good stuff. While his 2023 autos and #'d are up significantly, his base (mojo, chrome, paper) is down quite a bit.

He also plays for the Rays, there isn’t much of a fan base there. If he was in any sort of decent market he’d be getting a lot more love. Also think that his two cups of coffee sort of let all the hype out of his sails.

Wouldn’t be surprised though to see him heavily hyped during the spring training cycle next year. Probably some “can he become the youngest player to hit 50 HR in a season” type headlines. Going to be a slower burn but he repeats this production next year and I think he will explode.

Agreed. Did you look at the stands when watching his homer highlights? I think there are more people at a little league baseball game than there.

Great fantasy pick this year. Got 3rd place and was more then happy with him as my starting 3B this season. No way I get him in the 10th round again.

I think it has more to do with his relative one-dimensionality as a player. He can definitely slug, but there are some deficiencies to his game wrt to his overall average, his defense, and his ability to draw walks

If he patches those things up (or just leans even harder into slugging to the point where he can get 60+ home runs in a season) his prices will definitely go up

Yeah, if he had 25 steals on the year to go along with the 40 HRs, the market would be going crazy over him right now. Regardless of the jersey he wears.
