Ty for the confirmation, ya so hard to value, I would almost want to teach a class on what they are looking at first lol

Is the holo on the back of the Howe a hockey puck or a diamond? How can you tell the actual pack inserted auto from an IP?

The pack-inserted Howe has the diamond-shaped hologram on the back. ALL of the pack-inserted or UDA-acquired copies have the diamond hologram on the back. Some have additional authentication (large, oval-shaped hologram on the back, separate COA card), but they all have that diamond hologram.

A Howe with the rectangular or puck-shaped hologram on the back is the base card and, if it is signed, the signature came after the card came out of a pack. Same with any of the other checklist cards that are signed - if the hologram on the back is not the diamond-shaped one, it is a base card that was signed after coming out of a pack.

The Reggie card had 25 copies with the additional inscription "Mr. October" below the numbering. Many cards without the inscription have been doctored to add the description. The cards that were inscribed were every 100th card. So card #100/2500, #200/2500, and so forth.

I recently got this for the Reds PC.

Yup, that is correct...99% of pack pulled Hero Auto's have the square hologram on the back.

Recently bought few boxes to hunt for Ted, Nolan, and Hank. Given how many boxes are still unopened, there are still few auto in the packs somewhere. This is more fun than opening 2023-24 Topps boxes.
Do you know there are actually a few copies that have Willie Mays on this card, along with Reggie. I've only ever see one at a card show, it was #660/

Reggie has quite a few examples of cards with "significant" serial numbers having an additional inscription - like the card having the serial number corresponding to the number of home runs by Harmon Killebrew and the like. But, yes, you do see cards with the "Mr. October" inscription that look to have clearly been added after the fact.

Nolan Ryan seems to have mostly abided by the "every 100th card" scheme when adding his "Strikeout King" inscription, though I've seen at least one other card having a "significant" serial number with a different inscription - I want to say that it was the 1989/2500 card because that was the year when he got his 5000th strikeout.

Joe Namath also has inscriptions on the "every 100th card" plan. I don't know if he also added inscriptions to copies with "significant" serial numbers, as I've only ever seen one inscribed Namath card:

Good point, why are all these sets being talked about sans Mays? Is he in it or not?

Upper Deck didn't put out a signed Mays from the Heroes set. It would've been a lot cooler if they did.

There are, of course, in-person signed copies of the Mays, but it's just not the same.

Anyone have any pictures of or remember exactly how the Arena holograms were boxed/packaged in ‘91? My memory has failed me on that but I remember and still have two consecutively numbered Montana holograms I pulled. Being so thin I guess that they were stuck together and didn’t get noticed when packaged.

I think they came randomly in the complete 30-32 hologram card sets.

Finally joined the club. All have diamond holograms except the Frank Thomas and Willie Mays.

Amazing!

Willie Mays didn't autograph any cards for his Heroes set, which is why yours doesn't have the diamond hologram. Any autod versions are the regular checklist cards autographed after the fact. But getting one autod makes a great completion to the run. I love it!

Is the Thomas pack pulled, or signed through UDA?

Ran across an Ryan way back that looked like it was signed by an ballpoint pen and it was faded. Right away i knew something was wrong with it but this was before the internet...i hope no one got fleeced by it.
